Funding announced for Sligo’s heritage buildings
Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan, TD, has announced that 477 heritage projects across every county in the country will benefit from a total of €3m under this year’s Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS). Of this fund €72,000 has been allocated to 12 projects in Sligo, ranging from historic shopfronts to larger country houses.

Video link maintains contact with Kempten friends
There have been numerous exchange visits between Sligo and Kempten since their Twinning Association was established 30 years ago. While restrictions imposed during the Covid pandemic have interrupted these contacts, Mayor Councillor Rosaleen O’Grady and Mayor of Kempten Thomas Kiechle were anxious to find a way of maintaining this long-standing friendship while travel restrictions are in place.

Covid-19 and subsequent school closures posed significant challenges to the successful delivery of the Student Enterprise Programme (SEP). The key objective of that programme is to promote entrepreneurship to our young people in second level schools. Sligo County Council Capital Projects
The latest Government Regulations, aimed at reducing the spread of Covid-19, have directed that all Construction Sites close from 6pm on Friday 8 January, with limited exceptions including “The repair, maintenance and construction of critical transport and utility infrastructure”.

New public safety measures being introduced
Arising from concerns expressed by the Government and HSE on the ‘rampant transmission of the Covid-19 virus’ in the community, a number of measures are being introduced in the interests of public health and safety. Concerns have risen over the weekend of large numbers of people travelling beyond the 5km limit to exercise and social distancing not been adhered to.
