The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Dara Mulvey has welcomed today’s announcement that Rosses Point Beach has been awarded the An Taisce Blue Flag for the 2021 season.

This flag will be flying on completion of the coastal protection works at the second beach.

The Cathaoirleach said

‘The Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised eco-labels.  It aims to raise environmental awareness and promote sound environmental management of beaches, marinas and inland bathing waters around the world.  Water quality is deemed “excellent” at all Blue Flag Beaches.’

Sligo County Council also welcomed the announcement that three of the county’s beaches have been awarded the An Taisce Green Coast Award for another year.  Rosses Point, Streedagh, and Dunmoran beaches have all been awarded a Green Coast Award (Green Flag) for 2021.  The award recognises beaches for their clean environment, excellent water quality and natural beauty.

An important aspect of the Green Coast Awards is the involvement of Clean Coasts groups in the management of awarded sites.  Sligo County Council acknowledges the continued support of the local community groups in Rosses Point, Streedagh, and Dunmoran in the management and pride they take in their local beaches.
