Traffic Report W/C 23rd March, 2020

SLIGO AREA

Western Distributor Road:

  • Works are continuing apace on the Western Distributor Road project. The project remains on target for an early June 2020 completion.
  • We would ask motorists to please take care with the new road and junction of Ballydoogan Road / Roger Eames Road.  The traffic signals at this junction are currently operating on a fixed cycle time until such time as the road vehicle sensors are installed.  In the interim the traffic signals may not be operating at full efficiency so we would ask motorists to exercise care and to continue to obey the traffic signal timings.  We apologise for this inconvenience. 

Oakfield Road Closure:

  • The Oakfield Road (from the entrance to Oakfield Estate to its junction with the L7509 Cloverhill Road) will remain closed to all vehicular traffic until 8pm on Saturday 28th March, 2020.  This closure is necessary to facilitate the completion of road tie-ins between the new Western Distributor Road and the existing Oakfield Road.   
  • Diversion routes will be via the N4 Dual Carriageway and Maugheraboy Road/Church Hill.  All diversions will be signed along the entire route.
  • Local access will be maintained at all times.

N4-N15 Sligo Urban Improvement Scheme:

  • Northbound Lane Closure will continue on the N4 and N15 through the N16 Duck Street and R291 junctions, with removal of the merge lane to the North of the R291 junction.  This is to facilitate sewer diversion and road widening works. Some Disruption to traffic is expected on the N4 Northbound back to the Ballast Quay junction and also at the N16 Duck Street / R291 junctions at peak times. 
  • West Footway Closure on the N4 & N15 to extend between Hughes Bridge to a point 200m North of the Rosses point (R291) Junction with diversions in place to East Footpath.  This is to facilitate sewer diversion, retaining wall and road widening works. 
  • Retaining Wall and Utilities works on the Rosses Point Road (R291) will continue next week.  Intermittent Traffic management will be in operation during off peak times, i.e. a Stop & Go Shuttle System on the R291.  Minor delays are anticipated on the Rosses Point Road and additional care should be taken. 
  • Existing Traffic signals at the N4-N15-N16 junction and the N15-R291 junction will be replaced with a 4-way STOP/GO operation in order to facilitate works to the traffic signal equipment.  Works will take place during off-peak hours 10:00hrs to 16:00hrs, with delays expected.  
  • Junction Realignment works will continue next week on the N15 / Rosses Point Road (R291) Junction.  Traffic management will be in operation, i.e. lane narrowing.
  • There will be alterations to the Traffic lights cycle times at the N15/Rosses Point (R291) junction and the N15/N16 Duck Street junction, which will cause knock on delays to the sideroad approaches.  

O’Connell Street Enhancement Scheme Project:

  • O’Connell Street is closed from its junction with Grattan Street to its junction with Knox Street from 07:00 on Monday, 6th January, 2020 to 18:00 on Thursday, 30th April, 2020.
  • Alternative routes will be in place via John Street, Adelaide Street, Wine Street and Knox Street.
  • Phase 10 Paving completed up to Penney’s.
  • Phase 8 & 9 Cafe Fleur - Llyods Pharmacy underway including excavations, removal of existing footpaths, installation of new underground ducting, services, drainage, chambers and kerbing.
  • Penney’s – Knox Cafe pedestrian crossing underway.
  • New surface water drainage installation works ongoing in the roadway in conjunction with Phase 8/9 works.
  • Pedestrian facilities will be provided.
  • Short term alteration to business entrances may be in place – signage will be in place.

Wine Street Communications Ducting Works:

  • Traffic Management measures will be in place on Wine Street during off-peak hours (18:00-06:00) in the vicinity of the Clarence Hotel (new Credit Union) week commencing 23rd March and the works will take approximately 4 nights. The two eastbound lanes at the junction for Wine St carpark will be merged into one, to facilitate this essential ducting work.  Minor delays can be expected.

  

NORTH SLIGO AREA:

  • Fencing, Footpath and landscaping works will continue on the N15 Northbound through Rathcormac Village up to and including 25th March, 2020.  Traffic Management (Stop /Go) will be in operation when required. Delays to be expected. Motorists to exercise caution.
  • Major Pavement Roadwork’s on the N15 between the townlands of Creevykeel and Castlegal commenced on the 6th of January. Traffic Management will be in operation when required. Major delays to be expected. Motorists to exercise caution. These works are ongoing until end of March, 2020. 
  • Roadworks will take place on Local Road No. L-7114-0/L-7115-0 Creevymore, Cliffoney on Monday 23rd March. Works expected to last 1 day.  Traffic Management will be in operation. Motorists to exercise caution.
  • Roadworks will continue on Local Road No. L-3305-0 Coolbeg, Carney.  Traffic Management will be in operation. Motorists to exercise.
  • Roadworks will continue on Local Road No. L-7101-0 Kilkilloge, Mullaghmore. Traffic Management will be in operation. Motorists to exercise caution.

 

  

ENNISCRONE AREA

  • Pothole repair and Surface Drainage works will continue in the Enniscrone area. Traffic control will be in operation but no delays are expected.
  • Drainage works will be carried out on L66017-0 (122) Traffic management will be in place.  Minor delays expected.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on L2601-0 (123) Carrowhubback. A temporary road closure will be in place. Diversions via L66023-0 (123.2) and LL66017-0 (122).

  

BALLYMOTE AREA

  • Pothole repair works will continue in the Ballymote area. Traffic control will be in operation but no delays are expected.

N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Project:

The construction of the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Project is progressing and is expected to be ongoing until Q2, 2021. Traffic management is in place for the following works:

  • Southbound Hard Shoulder is closed to traffic from the N4 Collooney Roundabout to the N4/N17 Toberbride Roundabout.
  • N4/N17 Toberbride Roundabout heading south on the existing N4 towards Dublin - Site Works ongoing for the first 3Km to the junction with the L1302. Hard Shoulders are closed to traffic. Please note a 60kph speed limit is in operation in this work zone for the duration of these works. Minor delays are expected as a result.
  • A Stop Go System will be in operation 450m to the South of the N4/N17 Toberbride Roundabout to allow construction works to take place on the existing N4 (Structure 1)Delays are expected as a result, particularly at peak times. Sligo County Council and Roadbridge Ltd. regret any inconvenience caused.                                   
  • The L-14019 Local Road junction with the N4 National Primary road, to the Cloonamahan Health Care Centre, has been moved to the north by approximately 50 metres. Diversion signs are in place.
  • The L-3606-9 Local Road at Cloonamahan from its junction with the N4 National Primary road to the junction with the L-14019-0 shall be closed to public traffic from Monday, 17th February, 2020 up to and including Friday, 8th May, 2020. An Alternative route is available via the remaining section of the L-3606-9 and the N17 National Primary Road.
  • A Stop Go System will be in operation 3.0km to the South of the N4/N17 Toberbride Roundabout to allow construction works to take place on the existing N4Delays are expected as a result, particularly at peak times. Sligo County Council and Roadbridge Ltd. regret any inconvenience caused.
  • A Stop Go System will be in operation 3.3km to the South of the N4/N17 Toberbride Roundabout to allow construction works to take place on the existing N4 (Structure 3, L-55015-0 tie in)Delays are expected as a result, particularly at peak times.   • Ongoing General Site Works on the L55015 at Doorly.
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L55016 at Knockagroagh.
  • The L-5502-0 at Drumfin Td. approximately 310 metres west of its junction with the existing N4 for a distance of approximately 570 metres in a westerly direction towards the Bogline Bridge will be closed to traffic from Wednesday 18th
    • Alternative route for traffic will be via the L-5501-0, in the townlands of Branchfield, Kilcreevin and Newpark; the L1502-32 in the townlands of Newpark, Cloonlurg and Drumfin; and the existing N4 in the townland of Drumfin.
    • General Site Works and bridge construction works ongoing on the L1502 32 at Cloonlurg. 
  • The L-5402-0 at Carrownagark Td. approximately 190 metres west of its junction with the existing N4 to the crossroads junction with the L-5403-0 in the townland of Kilmorgan will be closed to traffic from Monday 02nd March.
    • Alternative route for traffic travelling to and from the Dublin direction will be via the L-5403-0-0, in the townlands of Kilmorgan, Cams, Aghalenane and Ardloy; and the existing N4 in the townland of Ardloy at Structure 11.
    • Alternative route for traffic travelling to and from the Sligo direction will be via the L-5403-0-0, in the townlands of Kilmorgan, Knockmoynagh and Turlaghyraun; and the L1502-32 in the townlands of Turlaghyraun, Newpark, Knockmoynagh, Cloonlurg and Drumfin; and the existing N4 in the townland of Drumfin.
  • General site works and bridge construction works ongoing on the L54033 at Kingsbrook. Localised road layout changes will be in place. Please follow the traffic management plan in operation.
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L5403 at Ardloy.
  • A Stop Go is in operation on the existing N4 at Ardloy Td. which is approximately 3Km northwest (Sligo Town side) of Castlebaldwin Village. Please note a60kph speed limit is in operation in this work zone. Delays are expected as a result, particularly at peak times. Sligo County Council and Roadbridge Ltd. regret any inconvenience caused.  
  • General Site Works ongoing and bridge construction works commenced on the L5401 at Tawnagh. Localised road layout changes are in place. Please follow the traffic management plan in operation.
  • Permanent Road Closure of the L54041-0 in the Townland of Sheerevagh from the 4th June 2019.
    • An alternative route is available via the L-5404-0, L-1403-0, L-1404-0 and the existing N4. This road is being used as a site access for the construction works.
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L1404 at Drumderry/Castlebaldwin.
  • Constructing a site access off the existing N4 on the southeast side of Castlebaldwin Village.
  • The South Bound Hard Shoulder and South Bound Carriageway will be closed to traffic on the existing N4 for approximately 1km to the south of Castlebaldwin Village. Please note a 60kph speed limit is in operation in this work zone. Sligo County Council and Roadbridge Ltd. regret any inconvenience caused.
  • A Stop Go System will be in operation to the South of Castlebaldwin Village to allow construction works to take place on the existing N4Delays are expected as a result, particularly at peak times. Sligo County Council and Roadbridge Ltd. regret any inconvenience caused.

TUBBERCURRY AREA 

Mountain Road, Tobercurry – Cast Iron pipe replacement Works:

  • Irish Water are decommissioning 400m of existing cast iron watermain on Mountain Road Tobercurry, Sligo. Works will include replacing 3” Cast Iron Watermains with 180mm polyethylene watermain, removal of all lead service pipes, and the transfer of existing services. These essential works are required to improve current water quality, water pressure and security of supply in the area. The works will be carried out on behalf of Irish Water by Farrans Construction Ltd and are expected to be completed by end March, 2020. Local traffic management will be in place. Traffic Management will be in place which will include Temporary Traffic Signals, minor traffic delays are to be expected. These works are essential to improve current water quality and water pressure of 250 equivalent existing domestic connections.

 

STRANDHILL AREA

 

  • Road realignment works will continue at Carrignagat railway bridge, Collooney on the R290. Traffic control will be in operation with minor delays expected.
