Public Participation In The Identication Of Bathing Waters

Local authorities must identify official bathing areas in their area every year so that they can be monitored for safety, water quality and their level of use. To help with this process, Sligo County Council are asking people who swim at beaches and lakes to tell them if they think they should maintain existing designated bathing waters designations or give a new official bathing area designation to areas that are commonly used for swimming, but not identified at the moment.

Irish Water wishes to remind customers supplied by the Lough Tait water supply that the Boil Water Notice remains in place. The present Lough Tait treatment process does not provide adequate protection against cryptosporidium and the risk of further detections remains high without a validated barrier against cryptosporidium. This can result in severe illness if the public do not boil their water before consumption.
