Traffic Report w/c 8th August, 2022

SLIGO AREA 

O’Connell Street Road Closure

  • O’Connell Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 07:00 on Monday 8th August through to 07:00 on Monday 15th August.  Alternative diversion routes will be in place.  This temporary road closure is necessary to allow for completion of the O’Connell Street Enhancement Phase 2 Scheme.

Oak Lawns (at Pearse Road junction) - Footpath Replacement Works:

  • Footpath enhancement works at the junction of Pearse Road and Oak Lawns Estate will be completed during w/c 8th August.  Traffic Management will be in place.

Chapel Street – Teeling Street Junction Enhancement Works

  • Enhancement works at the junction of Chapel Street and Teeling Street will commence on Wednesday 10th August.  Temporary Traffic Management measures will be in place and delays can be expected at peak times.  The works are expected to take two weeks, weather permitting.

Pedestrian Diversions

  • O’Connell Street - Due to necessary works at existing crossing point, new temporary crossing point will be established this week Infront of Tourist information building towards TSB bank.  Temporary traffic management barriers and signage will be erected around works area.  Access will be maintained to stores at all times.
  • Lower Knox Street – South side footpath will be open to pedestrians from junction with O’Connell Street to Hyde bridge.  Pedestrians will be diverted through tarred walkway along Discover Ireland building/ramp via temporary traffic management barriers and signage.  This is to enable footpath excavations and construction.  Access will be maintained to Yeats Society and Tourist Information at all times.
  • Fish Quay Street - Westside footpath will remain closed from end of works area to Lower Knox Street junction (Eir building to An Post) due to laying of granite paving.  Pedestrian access will be maintained along East side of Fish Quay Street.  Temporary traffic management barriers / signs will be put in place around works area.  Access will be maintained to An Post driveway at all times.
    Pedestrian crossing between An Post and Simones will remain open.
  • Lower Knox Street – Northside footpath will be opened to pedestrians.  Pedestrian crossing Infront of An Post will be in operation with northside traffic light placed in barrel at crossing point.  Access will be maintained to walkways and businesses at all times (An Post and Henry Lyons).
  • Lower Knox Street – South side footpath will be closed to pedestrians from Lloyd Pharmacy to Fabios.  Pedestrians will be diverted across new pedestrian crossing towards An Post.  A pedestrian crossing will be opened Infront of Fabios also to continue along Southside footpath.

Lane Narrowing / Closures:

  • A road closure will be put in place on O’Connell St starting from Monday 8th until Monday 15th August. Only local access for deliveries to stores on O’Connell St will be granted.  Diversionary route will be put in place directing traffic onto John Street, Adelaide Street then onto Wine Street/Lower Knox Street.
  • Lane narrowing will be present on Lower Knox St West due to footpath works.  Temporary traffic management will be in place to guide vehicles.
  • Lane narrowing will be present on Lower Knox Street East due to footpath/kerbing works, temporary traffic management will be in place to guide vehicles.

  • Sligo County Council apologises for any inconvenience arising from these works.

Cranmore:

  • Installation of a footpath and car parking bays, at John Fallon Drive and Joe McDonnell Drive, Cranmore. A dedicated traffic management plan will be in place for each location. Minor traffic delays are expected. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution. 

   

NORTH SLIGO AREA 

  • Road Closure will be in place on the following roads to facilitate Road Reconstruction and strengthening works at the following locations:
    • L-7305 Rahelly
    • L3301-0 Mount Edward
  • Signed diversions will be in place.  Sligo County Council wishes to apologies for any inconvenience caused.
  • Drainage Works ongoing at
    • L – 7121-21 – Mount Temple – Lane Narrowing in place
  • Routine maintenance will continue through the area with Verge trimming and Pothole repair works on local and regional roads.

Drumcliffe:

  • Ward and Burke Construction are working on behalf of Irish Water to upgrade wastewater facilities for Glebe Builders at the new HSE Health Centre in Drumcliffe.

ROSSES POINT SEWERAGE SCHEME:

Temporary Road Closure on old Rosses Point Road:

  • A temporary road closure remains in place along an approximately 100 metres stretch of the Old Rosses Point Road (L-3309-0) from the junction with local road L-3311-1 in the vicinity of the Wastewater Pumping Station (immediately east of Rosses Point Post Office).  This road closure is necessary to facilitate ongoing construction works under the Rosses Point Sewerage Scheme.  The period of approved closure is from Monday, 4th July, 2022 up to and including Tuesday, 28th February, 2023.
  • Access to residents is being maintained by opening of the heretofore closed access onto the R291-60. Signage is in place for the traffic rerouting but minor disruption can be expected.  On re-opening of the section of the Old Rosses Point Road (L-3309-0) from the junction with local road L-3311-1, the access closure on the L-3309-0 at the junction with the R291-60 will be reinstated as per traffic flow arrangements prior to the Works.

  

ENNISCRONE AREA

  • Pothole repair works will continue in the Enniscrone area. Traffic control will be in operation, minor delays are expected.
  • Drainage works will continue in the Enniscrone area.  Traffic control will be in operation, minor delays are expected.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out L6213-0 (27) Cloonagh/Carrowvard, traffic management will be in place.  A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via L62101-0 (32), L2203-0 (33) and L2205-0 (35).
  • Road Restoration will be carried out L6210-0 (32) Carrowbleagh/Chapel Street, traffic management will be in place.  A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via L6211-0 (31), L6210-0 (32), N59.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out L6211-0 (31) Spring Garden, Carrowmorris, traffic management will be in place.  A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via L6212-0 (30), L6210-0 (32), L2203-0 (33) and N59.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out L6212-0 (30) Carrownaboll/Bunnafedia, traffic management will be in place.  A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via L2203-0 (33), L6210-0 (32) and N59.

  • Road Restoration will be carried out L2702-0 (53) Trasgarve/Crowagh Dunneil Mountain, traffic management will be in place.  A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.

  • Road Restoration will be carried out on L6507-0 (99) Leaffoney, traffic management will be in place.  A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via L2502-0 (94) /R297.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on L65075-0 (95) Carrowcollar/Dringaghan, traffic management will be in place.  A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via L6507-0 (99), 6510-0 (98), L65076-0 (99.1).
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on L6603-0 (104.1) Cottlestown, traffic management will be in place.  A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via L6601-0 (103), R297.

  • Drainage works will be carried out on the L66017-0 (122) Carrowhubback.  Traffic lights will be in place, minor delays expected.

N59 Lugnadeffa

  • Road Restoration will be carried out N59 Lugnadeffa (between loop on the L2802-0 (1) Hungary Rock road), commencing on Monday 8th August up to 26th August.  A temporary road closure will be in place and a convoy system and 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  Minor Traffic delays are expected.

New One way System - Duck Street, The Hollow

  • From 26th July 2022, a new one way system is in operation in The Hollow, Carrowhubback, Enniscrone, with one way entry to the Hollow, on Duck Street, L66014-0.
  • Two way traffic is in operation on the L66015-0 and on the L66014-0 to the car park/Hollow.
  • No entry is allowed from Duck Street, L66014-0 onto the R297.

Kilglass:

  • New watermains installations, service connections, and associated work including decommissioning of old watermains, is ongoing. It is estimated that this work will be completed by mid-September 2022.
  • Work will be predominantly in 3 locations:
    • Along the public road between Bourke’s bridge at Bourkestown, and the Drinaghan crossroads
    • Along the public road between the Drinighan crossroads and the R297 road
    • Along the R298 public road for a length of 800 m approximately, at Lackancahill townland
  • For week commencing Monday 8th August 2022.  Work will be mainly at the following location:
    • Between Bourke’s bridge and the Drinaghan crossroads.  Traffic lights will be in place when required, with minor delays expected.

R297 from Mayo Border to Dromore West:

  • Drainage works will be carried out on the R297, from the Mayo Border to Dromore west.  Traffic management will be in place, minor delays expected.

Construction of Pedestrian Crossing – Carrowhubbock South:

  • Construction of a Pedestrian crossing will continue on the R297 Carrowhubbock South, Enniscrone. Traffic lights will be in place.  Minor delays expected.

  

BALLYMOTE AREA 

Foyogues Bridge

  • Repairs are being undertaken to Foyogues Bridge on the R284 south of Geevagh, Co. Sligo with an expected duration of six weeks.
  • While one way traffic will be provided for the duration of the works, minor delays are to be expected.

 

TUBBERCURRY AREA

  • Pothole repair works will continue in the Tubbercurry area. 

 

STRANDHILL AREA

Strandhill Village:

  • Watermain upgrade works for Irish Water in and around Strandhill Village is ongoing.  This project involves the decommissioning of over 3km of old cast iron water mains, and their replacement with new High Density Polyethelene (HDPE) pipes, and associated work.  The works are expected to be ongoing until early September 2022.
  • The scope of the Water mains rehabilitation project works includes the following:
    • Installation of a new watermain on the Shore Road, from the Airport Road junction to the Promenade. The transfer of service connections to the new watermain, and associated work.
    • The transfer of service connections from old cast iron watermains to adjacent existing uPVC watermains, at the following locations: Shore road, between the Airport road and St. Patrick’s church / Buenos Aires Drive / R292 ‘Top Road’, from the former Kelly’s hotel to the Summerville Nursing Home location.
    • Installation of a new watermain, commencing at the Sandy Cove estate area and extending along the R292 in by the Rugby Club to the roundabout, and continuing up along the ‘Top Road’ to terminate at the Buenos Aires Drive junction.
  • For week commencing Monday 8th August, the main body of work will be on the Top Road, between Summerville nursing home and the T junction with Buenos Ayres Drive.  Traffic lights will be in place when required, and delays can be expected.
