Traffic Report w/c 17th October, 2022

SLIGO AREA 

N4 Sligo Inner Relief Road - Road Marking Enhancement Scheme:

  • Road marking enhancement works will be carried out along the N4 Sligo Inner Relief Road on the night of Wednesday 19th October during the hours of 22:00 through to 06:00.
  • A Stop-Go Traffic Management system will be in place.  

Road Marking Works at Carraroe:

  • Further to recent resurfacing works at Carraroe Hill and at the Retail Park round-about, road marking will take place on Tuesday 18th October.
  • A Stop-Go Traffic Management system will be in place by main contractor Lagan.  Delays can be expected, and motorists are advised to take alternative routes where possible.
  • Sligo County Council regrets any inconvenience caused.

Drainage Improvement Works:

Road drainage improvement works will be carried out at the following locations through w/c 17th October:

  • Elm Gardens Road
  • Old Cartron Estate
  • Cleveragh Drive (north of Sports Complex)
  • Riverside (at Garavogue Villas)
  • Church Hill (at Nazareth House)

Resurfacing Works at Cartron Heights:

  • Resurfacing works at the entrance to Cartron Heights (off the R291 Rosses Point road) will take place on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th October. Local access will be provided.
  • Main contractor Lagan will have Traffic Management measures in place.
  • Sligo County Council regrets any inconvenience caused.

Thornhill Estate - Footpath Enhancement Works:

  • Footpath enhancement works in Thornhill Estate will commence on Monday 17th October and the works are expected to be last for two weeks, weather permitting. Temporary traffic management measures will be in place. Sligo County Council apologies for any inconveniences caused.

Stephen Street/Holborn Street – Monday 17th & Tuesday 18th (Night Work)

  • In order to carry out essential maintenance works to the Existing Sewer on Stephen Street, Over pumping sewer lines will be in place on Stephen Street and Holborn Steet will be closed to through Traffic.  The works are scheduled for Monday 17th October form 7:00 pm until 7:00 am and Tuesday 18th October form 7:00 pm until 7:00 am.  Work works are street closures will be undertaken outside the above times Irish Water and Sligo County Council regret any inconvenience caused

O'Connell Street Enhancement Phase 02 Project:

Pedestrian Diversions

  • O’Connell Street west and Lower Knox Street - southside footpath along Lloyds Pharmacy to Zulu is now complete and reopened to pedestrians with barriers removed. 
  • O’Connell Street - Pedestrian crossing has been relocated approximately 3m Southwards further along O’Connell Street.  Note, this is now an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing. 
  • Lower Knox Street East (from Tourist Office to Yeats Society building) – South side footpath will be open to pedestrians from junction with O’Connell Street to Hyde bridge. Pedestrians will be diverted through tarred walkway along Discover Ireland building/ramp via temporary traffic management barriers and signage.  This is to enable footpath excavations and construction.  Access will be maintained to Yeats Society and Tourist Information at all times.
  • Zebra crossing at Hyde Bridge is now decommissioned.  Please use new uncontrolled crossing opposite AXA / Rockwood Parade entry.
  • Fish Quay Street – Westside and Eastside footpath is opened to pedestrians.  Access will be maintained to all businesses and driveway at all times.
  • Fish Quay Street - Pedestrian crossing between An Post and Simones will be open as normal. 
  • Lower Knox Street (West) – Northside footpath between Henry Lyons and An Post will be opened to pedestrians.  Pedestrian crossing Infront of An Post will be in operation with northside traffic light placed in barrel at crossing point.  Access will be maintained to walkways and businesses at all times (An Post and Henry Lyons).
  • Lower Knox Street West – Pedestrian crossing between Lloyds Pharmacy and An Post will be opened as normal.  Traffic light will be placed in barrel beside crossing point. 

Lane Narrowing / Closures:

  • Please note 2nr disabled parking bays have been installed outside FTK and Zulu on Wine Street.

Doorly Park:

  • Construction of a Pedestrian crossing will commence on 17th October at Doorly Park and will continue for approximately 3 weeks.

Cranmore:

  • Installation of a footpath and car parking bays, at John Fallon Drive and Joe McDonnell Drive, Cranmore.  A dedicated traffic management plan will be in place for each location.  Minor traffic delays are expected.  Motorists are advised to proceed with caution. 

Cranmore demolition works:

  • Demolition works and construction activity associated with the development of 4 new dwellings at Joe McDonnell Drive, Cranmore and Chapel Hill.  A dedicated traffic management plan will be in place for each location. Traffic delays are expected.  Motorists are advised to proceed with caution or to avoid Chapel Hill if possible. 

   

SLIGO-DRUMCLIFFE AREA 

Crooked Bridge, Gortaderry:

  • Repair works will be carried out at Crooked Bridge, Gortaderry on the L 3205, North Sligo, commencing on Wednesday 17th August with an expected duration of three weeks.
  • One way traffic will be in place for the duration of the works, however minor delays are to be expected.

Drumcliffe:

  • Ward and Burke Construction are working on behalf of Irish Water to upgrade wastewater facilities for Glebe Builders at the new HSE Health Centre in Drumcliffe.

Road Closures

  • Road Closures will be in place on the following roads to facilitate Road Surfacing Works at the following locations:  Dates to be confirmed – Weather Dependant
    • L-7305 Rahelly
    • Cloysparra LIS

A Stop/Go operation will be in place to facilitate Sweeping Cleaning/ Verge Filling and Accommodation works throughout the week at various location to include:

N15 & N16 Verge Trimming:

  • PWS Signs Ltd are undertaking Verge Trimming Works on the N16, commencing at the Leitrim Border and progress southwards on the 3rd October 2022.
  • Routine maintenance will continue through the area with Verge trimming and Pothole repair works on local and regional roads.
  • Sligo County Council apologises for any inconvenience arising from these works.

ROSSES POINT SEWERAGE SCHEME:

Pipelaying Works currently being undertaken by Coffey Construction Ltd on behalf of Irish Water. 

Works along R291 Sligo to Rosses Point Road:

  • Pipelaying will continue during the week along the R291 between the Raddison Hotel and Rosses Point Village.  A traffic management plan is in place, but motorists can expect minor delays with temporary traffic lights in operation.  These works are expected to be ongoing until the end of November 2022.

Works along Scotsman’s Walk:

  • A Temporary Road Closure remains in place to facilitate ongoing pipelaying works along Scotsman’s Walk (L-90102-0) on the North side of Sligo Town.  The road will remain temporarily closed to traffic from its junction with the R291 Rosses Point Road as far as its junction with the N15.  Traffic diversion routes are in place via the R291 Rosses Point Road at its main junction with the N15 (closer to town) and also via the L-7310 Ballinvoher Road further north.  These works along Scotsman’s Walk are expected to be ongoing to mid November 2022

Temporary Road Closures in Rosses Point Village:

  • A temporary road closure remains in place along an approximately100 metre stretch of the Old Rosses Point Road (L-3309-0) from the junction with local road L-3311-1 in the vicinity of the Wastewater Pumping Station (immediately east of Rosses Point Post Office).  The temporary closure will continue until the end of February 2023.  Access to residents is being maintained by opening of the heretofore closed access onto the R291 at the east end.  Signage is in place for the traffic rerouting, but minor disruption can be expected.  On re-opening of the section of the Old Rosses Point Road (L-3309-0) from the junction with local road L-3311-1, the access closure on the L-3309-0 at its east end junction with the R291 will be reinstated as per traffic flow arrangements prior to the Works.
  • A series of further road closures in Rosses Point Village commenced on a phased basis from Monday 12th September 2022.  These temporary closures will extend to February 2023 and are necessary to facilitate sewer replacement works along the main village street from the existing wastewater pumping station westwards as far as and including Colmcille Drive 

The Programmed Dates and Period of Road Closures to facilitate Phases 1 and 2 sewer laying works are as follows:

Phase 1 – 12th of September to End of October 2022:

  • Closure of 210m length of Old Rosses Point Road (L-3309-0) between the junction at Bay View Stores/Cottage Café area (L-7314-0) and the Junction at the wastewater Pumping Station (L-3311-1).
  • Closure of 20m Link Road L-3311-1 between the main R291 and the Old Rosses Point Road (L-3309-0).

Phase 2 – End of October 2022 to End of November 2022:

  • Closure of 270m along the Old Rosses Point Road (L-3309-0) between the Driftwood Restaurant and the junction at Bay View Stores/Cottage Café area(L-7314-0).

Traffic Management Plans will be in operation with diversion routes sign posted but delays can be expected.

ENNISCRONE AREA

  • Road Restoration will be carried out in Rathgoonan.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local access will be provided.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out in L66041-0 (70.1) Muingiwore.  A Temporary Road closure will be in place, Local access will be provided.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out in L2502-0 (94) Gortagheen, Bourkes Town, Culleens.  A Temporary Road closure will be in place, Diversion via L2501-16 (90) and L6507-0 (99).  Local access will be provided.
  • Pothole repair works will continue in the Enniscrone area.  Traffic control will be in operation, minor delays are expected.
  • Drainage works will continue in the Enniscrone area.  Traffic control will be in operation, minor delays are expected.

Enniscrone Town

  • For week commencing Monday 17th October, watermains installation and associated work will be commencing on Main Street, Enniscrone.  This will be commencing at the Bellawaddy bridge location, and work will progress towards the Pier Road junction.  Traffic lights / a stop - go traffic management system will be in place when required, and delays can be expected.  It is estimated that this work will be completed by mid-December 2022.

New One way System - Duck Street, The Hollow

  • From 26th July 2022, a new one way system is in operation in The Hollow, Carrowhubback, Enniscrone, with one way entry to the Hollow, on Duck Street, L66014-0.
  • Two way traffic is in operation on the L66015-0 and on the L66014-0 to the car park/Hollow.
  • No entry is allowed from Duck Street, L66014-0 onto the R297.

R297 Knockacullen, Dromore West:

  • Drainage works will be carried out on the R297 Knockacullen, Dromore West, Traffic lights will be in operation, Minor delays expected.

Kilglass:

  • New watermains installations, service connections, and associated work including decommissioning of old watermains, is ongoing. It is estimated that this work will be completed by mid-November 2022.
  • Work will be predominantly in 3 locations:
    • Along the public road between Bourke’s bridge at Bourkestown, and the Drinaghan crossroads
    • Along the public road between the Drinighan crossroads and the R297 road
    • Along the R298 public road for a length of 800 m approximately, at Lackancahill townland
  • For week commencing Monday 17th October 2022, work will be mainly at the following location:
    • Between Drinaghan crossroads and R297 Regional Road: The road will be closed, with access for local traffic only; a road diversion will be in place.
    • Along the R298 road, at Lackanhall townland. Traffic lights / stop - go traffic management system will be in place when required, and some delays can be expected.

Road Restoration:

  • Road Restoration will be carried out in R297 Killeenduff. Traffic Management will be in place, Minor delays expected. HGV’S coming from Dromore West should divert onto N59 and L2402-0 (84) Easkey. HGV’S coming from Enniscrone should divert onto L2402-0 (84) and onto N59.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out in R297 Curraghnagap, Easkey. Traffic Management will be in place, Minor delays expected. HGV’S coming from Dromore West should divert onto L2402-0 (84) to N59 and R298 Enniscrone. HGV’S coming from Enniscrone should divert onto R298 and onto N59.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out in R297 Bartragh/Muckduff. Traffic Management will be in place, Minor delays expected. HGV’S coming from Easkey should divert onto R298 and N59. HGV’S coming from Ballina should divert onto L2602-0 (102) Corballa, or R298.

 

BALLYMOTE AREA 

  • Construction of a Pedestrian crossing will commence on 17th October in Ballymote and will take approximately 3 weeks to complete.

Foyogues Bridge

  • Repairs are being undertaken to Foyogues Bridge on the R284 south of Geevagh, Co. Sligo with an expected duration of six weeks.
  • While one way traffic will be provided for the duration of the works, minor delays are to be expected.

 

TUBBERCURRY AREA

  • Verge trimming works will commence on the R294 Lough Talt to Tubbercurry to Gurteen.  Traffic control will be in operation with minor delays expected.  Works are scheduled to last 1 week. 
  • Pothole repair works will continue in the Tubbercurry area. 

 

STRANDHILL AREA

  • Road Restoration will be carried out on the L-5202-0 Kingsfort, traffic management will be in place, A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via L1201-0 & L12011-0.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on the R290 Ballygrania, traffic management will be in place, A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place on L-36058-0, Local Access will be provided.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on the L-6102-36 Billa Moymlough, traffic management will be in place, A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via L6104-0, L2801-0 & L2101-0.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on the L-2101-0 Tullaghan, traffic management will be in place, A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via L6102-36, L6104-0 & L2801-0.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on the L-3508-0 Knocknahur North, traffic management will be in place, A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via R292-142, L7512-0, L7509-0 & L7510-0.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on the L-3503-0 Grange East, traffic management will be in place, A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via L3507-26 & L3508-0.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on the L3501-0 Barnashrahy, traffic management will be in place, A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via R292-19, L7501-0 & L3507-26.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on the L36042-0 Belladrihid, traffic management will be in place, A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided, diversion via N59 & L3604-0.
  • Road Restoration will be carried out on the L7604-13 Killerry, traffic management will be in place, A 50km.hr speed limit will be in operation within the site.  A temporary road closure will be in place, Local Access will be provided.
  • Footpath repair works will continue in Cloondara, Ballisodare.

Ballisodare

  • Footpath construction works will continue on the R290 between the roundabout on the N59 and Carrignagat.  Traffic Management will be in place with delays expected.  Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.

Strandhill Village:

  • Watermain upgrade works for Irish Water in and around Strandhill Village is ongoing.  This project involves the decommissioning of over 3km of old cast iron water mains, and their replacement with new High Density Polyethelene (HDPE) pipes, and associated work.  The works are expected to be ongoing until early September 2022.
  • The scope of the Water mains rehabilitation project works includes the following:
    • Installation of a new watermain on the Shore Road, from the Airport Road junction to the Promenade. The transfer of service connections to the new watermain, and associated work.
    • The transfer of service connections from old cast iron watermains to adjacent existing uPVC watermains, at the following locations: Shore road, between the Airport road and St. Patrick’s church / Buenos Aires Drive / R292 ‘Top Road’, from the former Kelly’s hotel to the Summerville Nursing Home location.
    • Installation of a new watermain, commencing at the Sandy Cove estate area and extending along the R292 in by the Rugby Club to the roundabout, and continuing up along the ‘Top Road’ to terminate at the Buenos Aires Drive junction.
  • For week commencing Monday 17th October, pipelaying operations will be ongoing along the R292 road, between Dolly’s cottage and the Strandhill roundabout. Traffic lights will be in operation when required, and delays can be expected.
