Traffic Report w/c 16th May, 2022

SLIGO AREA 

Rockwood Parade – Installation of New Automated Bollard:

  • Rockwood Parade will be closed to all vehicular access from 11:30 on Monday 16th through to 19:00 on Wednesday 18th May.  This traffic restriction is required in order to facilitate the installation of a new automated bollard.  For any queries in relation to the provision of local access / alternative parking options during this period, please contact Sligo County Council Roads Office on 071 91 11493.

O'Connell Street Enhancement Project Phase 02:

Pedestrian Diversions

  • Lower Knox Street – South side footpath will remain closed for pedestrians from junction with O’Connell Street to Rockwood Parade (Tourist information building to Yeats Society).  This is to enable installation of slot drain and laying of granite paving.  Pedestrians will be diverted across pedestrian crossings at Tourist Information building and Lloyd Pharmacy onto Lower Knox Street North side footpath using temporary traffic management.  Pedestrians will also be diverted across pedestrian crossing at Rockwood parade onto North side footpath.  Access will be maintained to Yeats Society and Tourist Information building at all times.
  • Fish Quay Street - Westside footpath will remain closed from end of works area to Lr Knox Street junction (Eir building to An Post) due to footpath works and laying of granite paving.  Pedestrian access will be maintained along East side of Fish Quay Street.  Temporary traffic management barriers / signs will be put in place around works area.  Access will be maintained to An Post driveway at all times.
  • Pedestrian crossing between An Post and Simones will remain open.
  • Lower Knox Street – Northside footpath to be narrowed from junction with Quay St. to Fish Quay Street (Henry J Lyons to An Post).  This is to accommodate removal of existing kerbing and excavations of new kerbline.  Access will be maintained to business and footpath at all times.
  • Pedestrian crossing opposite An Post will also remain open at all times.

Lane Narrowing / Closures:

  • Lane narrowing will be present on Lower Knox Street due to the footpath works, temporary traffic management measures are in place to guide vehicles.
  • Lane narrowing will also be present on Wine St due to upcoming footpath works, temporary traffic management measures will be in place to guide vehicles.

N4-N15 Sligo Urban Improvement Scheme:

  • Minor works will be taking place at the N4/Markievicz Road and N4/N16 Duck Street Junctions.  These works consist of the installation of sign sockets on the traffic islands.  The pedestrian crossings on the islands will remain open as normal with temporary traffic management measures in place for guidance of pedestrians.

Cranmore:

  • Installation of a footpath and car parking bays, at John Fallon Drive and Joe McDonnell Drive, Cranmore.  A dedicated traffic management plan will be in place for each location.  Minor traffic delays are expected.  Motorists are advised to proceed with caution. 

Gallows Hill – New Pedestrian Crossing:

  • The traffic signals at the new pedestrian crossing on Gallows Hill (at its junction with Circular Road) will be commissioned and activated on Tuesday 24th May.

Footpath Enhancement Works at The Gate Lodge, Doorly Park:

  • Footpath enhancement and drainage works in the vicinity of the Gate Lodge at Doorly Park will be carried out through w/c 16th May.  A road closure with signed traffic diversions via Cranmore Road will be in place during Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th May.  Temporary traffic management will be in place.

Other works:

IFN Project:

  • KN Circet working on behalf of Eir on the IFN project, will be carrying out works as listed below:
    • Pirn Mill Road, Finisklin Road, Ballast Quay
    • Riverside, Crozon Parade, Saint Asicus Terrace, County Hall/Fire Station, Garavogue Villas,
    • Temple Street, The Lungy, Gallows Hill, Dominic street
    • Stephen Street, Bridge Street, The Mall (Early mornings)
    • Quay Street, Lower Quay Street, Wine Street, Lower Knox Street (early Mornings)
    • Finisklin Road, Deep Water Quay,
    • John F Kennedy Parade, Abbey Street Lower, Saint John’s Terrace
  • Minor delays are expected.

 

NORTH SLIGO AREA 

  • Road Closures are in place to Facilitate Road Strengthening Works at the following Locations:
    • Creevykeel L3104-16: - Road closure in place and Diversion Route in place - Friday 13th May 2022.  Local Access only.
    • Gortnaleck L3205-0: - Road closure in place and Diversion Route in place - Monday 16th May 2022.  Local Access only.
    • Rinroe L72042: - Road closure in place – Local Access Only – Tuesday 17th May 2022.
    • Liggan L7221: - Road closure in place – Local Access Only – Diversion Route in place – Wednesday 18th May 2022.
    • Ardhermon – L3208: - Road Closure in palace – Local Access Only - Thursday 19th May 2022.  Local Access only
  • Significant Delays are expected. Sligo County Council apologises for any inconvenience arising from these works.

N15 Vehicle Restraint System (VRS) installation:

  • The installation of crash barriers on the N15 at Grange/Teesan/Rathcormac will continue.  A dedicated traffic management plan will be in place for each location.  Minor traffic delays are expected.  Motorists are advised to proceed with caution. 

Drumcliffe:

  • Ward and Burke Construction are working on behalf of Irish Water to upgrade wastewater facilities for Glebe Builders at the new HSE Health Centre in Drumcliffe.

  

ENNISCRONE AREA

  • Pothole repair works will continue in the Enniscrone area. Traffic control will be in operation, minor delays are expected.
  • Drainage works will continue in the Enniscrone area.  Traffic control will be in operation, minor delays are expected.
  • Footpath and ducting works will be carried out on the Cliff Road L2601-0 (123).  Traffic management will be in place. Car Parking restrictions will be in place.
  • Drainage works will be carried out on the L65075-0, Drinighan, Killglass.  Traffic lights will be in operation. Minor delays expected.
  • Drainage works will be carried out in Carrownaboll/Halquarter L6212-0 (30).  Traffic lights will be in operation.  Minor delays expected.

R297 from Mayo Border to Dromore West:

  • Drainage works will be carried out on the R297, from the Mayo Border to Dromore west.  Traffic management will be in place, minor delays expected.
  • Construction of a Pedestrian crossing will commence on the R297 Carrowhubback South, Enniscrone. Traffic lights will be in place.  Minor delays expected.

  

STRANDHILL AREA

  • General maintenance including Pothole repair and road verge opening and gulley cleaning operations are ongoing throughout the area.  Traffic management will be in operation with minor delays expected.
  • Footpath repair works will continue in Cloondara, Ballisodare.

Strandhill Village:

  • Watermain refurbishment works for Irish Water in and around Strandhill Village is ongoing.  This Project involves the decommissioning of over 3km of old cast iron water mains, and their replacement with new High Density Polyethelene (HDPE) pipes.  The works are expected to be ongoing until August 2022.
  • The scope of the Water mains rehabilitation project works includes the following:
    • Installation of a new watermain on the Shore Road, from the Airport Road junction to the Promenade
    • Installation of a new watermain, commencing at the Sandy Cove estate area and extending along the R292 in by the Rugby Club to the roundabout, and continuing up along the ‘Top Road’ to terminate at the Buenos Aires Drive junction.
    • The transfer of service connections from an old cast iron watermain to an adjacent existing uPVC watermain on Buenos Aires Drive (Former Kelly’s Hotel down to Church) and along the R292 ‘Top Road’ from Former Kelly’s Hotel out towards Summerville Nursing Home.
  • The first section of mains refurbishment works, which is ongoing, extends along the Shore Road from the end of the Promenade back to the junction with the Airport Road. Some of this work will be in the footpaths.  For week commencing Monday 16 May, most of the work will be between the Airport Road, and the pedestrian crossing at the beach end of the Shore Road.  A Traffic Management Plan is in place with access to business premises being maintained but disruption can be expected.  Availability of car parking along the promenade will be affected, and motorists are requested to use the nearby public carpark instead.  The first portion of the works is expected to be ongoing for another 3 weeks approximately.
