N4 Inner Relief Road Pavement Resurfacing Contract 2025

Sligo County Council will carry out essential resurfacing works on approximately 1.2 km of the N4 Inner Relief Road, extending from 250m east of the N4 Summerhill Roundabout to the N4/Custom House Quay junction.

Project Schedule

  • Start Date: Monday 11 August 2025
  • End Date: Friday 12 September 2025
  • Working Hours: Off-peak hours, 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM (Monday to Friday only)
  • Duration: 5 weeks
  • Note: Works are weather-dependent and may be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.

Traffic Impact & Management

Resurfacing works will be carried out during off-peak hours, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Monday to Friday. Lane closures will be required on both the northbound (towards Donegal) and southbound (towards Dublin) lanes of the N4 during these times. The northbound phase will be completed first, followed by the southbound phase.
To maintain access to surrounding areas, local diversions will be implemented at junctions along the N4 Inner Relief Road, including eastbound (towards the city centre) and westbound (towards the coast) routes.

Despite night-time lane closures, the N4 will remain fully open to two-way traffic during daytime hours. Road users are advised to proceed with caution due to an  unfinished surface.
To ensure uninterrupted access for emergency services and public transport, Wolfe Tone Street (southbound towards Church Hill) will operate as a 24-hour no parking zone for the full duration of the works. This restriction will be clearly marked using Garda cones.

Advice to Road Users

Sligo County Council advises all road users travelling during weekday evenings to allow additional time when planning their journeys as moderate to significant disruption is expected during nighttime works.

While the N4 will remain open to two-way traffic during daytime hours, some daytime impacts are anticipated due to traffic signal upgrades and associated resurfacing works. These impacts will be closely monitored and mitigated wherever possible to minimise inconvenience.
