Private Housing Adaptation Grants (Priority 2 and 3 ) remain paused

Private Housing Adaptation Grants for Older People & Disabled People Schemes

Update at 01/05/2026

The total estimated value of current commitments under the Private Housing Adaptation Grants for Older People & Disabled People Schemes for 2026 already exceeds the allocation received from the Department. The Council therefore has no option for now but to continue to pause the Schemes, other than for applications deemed Priority 1. This applies to the three Grant schemes:

  • Housing Adaptation Grants for Disabled People (HAGs),
  • Mobility Aids Grants (MAGs),
  • Housing Aid for Older People Grants (HOPs).

The decision follows a detailed review, which assessed current resources, high volume of applications submitted in 2025 to date, the projected waiting times for grants to be processed, and ongoing budget commitments.

Sligo County Council recognises that the Scheme aims to support vulnerable members of the community to remain in their homes and within their communities for as long as possible.

This is a necessary measure to ensure existing commitments are met and to prioritise those applicants with the most urgent medical and care needs.

Additional funding has now been sought from the Department. The situation will be kept under continuous review and any decision to recommence the Schemes will be subject to adequate additional funding being made available to the Council.
