of Sligo County Development Plan 2024-2030

Alignment with the Housing Growth Requirements Guidelines 2025 and rezoning of two sites following determinations on RZLT submissions

At the May Council meeting, held on Monday 11 May 2026, the Elected Members of Sligo County Council resolved to make a Variation to Sligo County Development Plan in accordance with the recommendations contained in the Chief Executive’s Report.

The Variation aligns the Plan with Ministerial Guidelines issued in 2025 in accordance with Section 28 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended), i.e. the “National Planning Framework (NPF) Implementation: Housing Growth Requirements Guidelines for Planning Authorities” (HGR Guidelines).

Variation No. 1 became operational on the day of adoption, 11 May 2026. The changes will be incorporated into the County Development Plan, and a consolidated version will be prepared and published as soon as possible.

The Variation consists of four parts.

Parts I, II and III seek to give effect to the HGR Guidelines by updating the housing target and amending the Strategic Land Reserve (SLR) policies of the Development Plan.

Part IV addresses the zoning of two sites for which rezoning determinations have been made by Sligo County Council after public consultation on the Draft Residential Zoned Land Tax (RZLT) Map 2026.

Draft Variation No. 1 of Sligo County Development Plan 2024-2030

Public consultation on the Draft Variation No. 1 took place from 6 February to 6 March 2026. During this period, 73 submissions were received. The submissions may be viewed at https://consult.sligococo.ie/en/node/2403/submissions

The Chief Executive prepared a report on the issues raised in submissions, for consideration by the Elected Members.
