Sligo Joint Policing Committee Public Meeting

The Sligo County Joint Policing Committee wishes to inform members of the public that a public meeting will be held on Thursday, 10th January, 2019.

The County Sligo Joint Policing Committee was established under the Garda Síochána Act, 2005.  The Membership of the Committee includes Elected Members of Sligo County Council, Oireachtas Members, Garda Representatives, Community Representatives and officials from Sligo County Council.  The function of the Committee is to serve as a forum for consultations, discussions and recommendations on matters affecting the policing of the local authority's administrative area.

The Sligo County Joint Policing Committee wishes to inform members of the public that a public meeting will be held on:

Date:  Thursday, 10th January, 2019

Venue:  Sligo Park Hotel, Pearse Road, Sligo

Time:  7.30 p.m.

Members of the public have the right to attend the meeting, to have their views heard and to put questions to the Committee.

Procedure for submitting Questions:

Questions will be accepted from any person affected by the policing of the area.  In order to raise a question at the meeting, advance notice of the question must be submitted in writing or by e-mail before the closing date below. The questioner must include their name and address, this information will not be publicised.  Questions must be submitted no later than 5.00 pm Monday, 31st December, 2018, to:

Please note that the emphasis of the public meeting is on general policing rather than individuals, and that in some circumstances it may not be possible to provide information requested for legal reasons or because it would not be in the public interest to do so, e.g. disclosure of the information sought:

  • could endanger the security of one or more individuals.
  • relates to an individual
  • involves information received by the Garda Síochána or the local authority in confidence.
  • would, or would be likely to, prejudice the prevention or detection of crime or the apprehension or prosecution of offenders.
  • is deemed prejudicial to a Garda operational matter.
