Twitter Policy 

The @sligococo Twitter account is managed by the Sligo County Council Communications department and IT section.

Tweets from this account will cover developments in Sligo County Council and related services.

If you follow us, you can expect tweets covering some or all of the following:

  • Press Releases on the Councils activities
  • Council speeches
  • Event information 
  • Alerts about new content on our website
  • “Emergency” communications
  • Other practical information on services available through the Council. 

Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for this lack of service.

Retweets may be used to highlight relevant appropriate announcements, particularly those by other Government bodies and neighbouring councils.

Normally our Twitter account will be updated and monitored during office hours, Monday to Friday. We welcome and will read all @ messages. However in general, due to resource constraints, we will not be in a position to reply to all messages.

@sligococo will not be obliged to follow any of our followers. If we do follow a Twitter account, it does not imply endorsement of any kind.

Sending a message via Twitter will not be considered as contacting the Council for official purposes and we will not be obliged to monitor or respond to requests for information through the Twitter channel. Instead, please see our contact details on

Please do not include personal/private information in your tweets to us. 

@sligococo is operated by public servants and as such we cannot participate in matters of party politics.

Facebook Social Media Policy

This policy outlines participation criteria for postings and published commentary on any of the Sligo County Council Facebook pages

The Sligo County Council Facebook pages intends to:

Provide information and updates regarding activities and opportunities at the Sligo County Council activities

In order to ensure that all discussions on the Sligo County Council page are productive, respectful, energized and consistent with the Councils mission and goals, we ask you to follow these guidelines:

  • Be considerate and respectful of others. Vulgarity, threats or abuse of language will not be tolerated.
  • Differing opinions and discussion of diverse ideas are encouraged, but personal attacks on anyone, including staff, will not be permitted.
  • Share freely and be generous, but be aware of copyright laws; be accurate and give credit where credit is due.
  • Stay on topic.
  • Refrain from using the Facebook page for solicitation, for commercial purposes or to market products. 

The sites are not monitored 24/7 and we will not always be able to reply individually to all messages or comments received. However, we will endeavour to ensure that any emerging themes or helpful suggestions are passed to the relevant people.

We retain the right to remove comments or content that includes:

  • Obscene or racist content
  • Personal attacks, insults, or threatening language
  • Potentially libellous statements
  • Plagiarized material; any material in violation of any laws, including copyright
  • Private, personal information published without consent
  • Information or links unrelated to the content of the forum
  • Commercial promotions or spam

Sligo County Council are not responsible for the accuracy of content posted by any subscriber in any forum; opinions expressed in comments on Sligo County Council social media forums do not necessarily represent those of Sligo County Council.
