Sligo County Council is pleased to announce that the N4 Inner Relief Road Pavement Resurfacing Contract 2025 has been awarded to Breedon Surfacing Solutions Ireland Ltd.
N4 Inner Relief Road Pavement Resurfacing Contract
This essential infrastructure project will involve 1 kilometre of resurfacing works along the N4 Inner Relief Road, extending from (and including) the Summerhill Roundabout to the Custom House Quay junction.

The works are scheduled to take place during off-peak evening and night hours, commencing on Monday, 11 August, and continuing through to Friday, 12 September 2025. This five-week programme excludes Saturday and Sunday nights. Please note that the schedule is tight and may be affected by poor weather or unforeseen requirements.
Traffic Management and Diversions
To facilitate the works, lane closures will be required on both northbound (towards Donegal) and southbound (towards Dublin) lanes during the designated hours. However, the N4 Inner Relief Road will remain fully open to two-way traffic during daytime hours. It is envisaged that the northbound lanes will be completed first, followed by the southbound lanes.
Temporary traffic management and diversions will be in place, including local diversions affecting east-west access across the N4 (City Centre to Coast). Dedicated crossing points will be maintained to ensure continued access as part of the traffic management plan. Temporary traffic management and diversions will be in place as outlined in the following drawings:

East-west access across the N4 Inner Relief Road (City Centre to Coast) will also be subject to local diversions. However, dedicated crossing points will be maintained as part of the traffic management plan.
While the majority of work will occur at night, some daytime disruption is expected, particularly in relation to traffic light system adjustments. These impacts will be closely monitored and minimised wherever possible.
Updates
Public updates will be provided through the Sligo County Council’s weekly roads report and Sligo County Council’s social media platforms. Additionally, Variable Message Signs will be installed to the north and south of the works in advance of the start date
