Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Regional Adult Literacy Coalition Celebrates International Literacy Day by Launching our "Literacy-Friendly Organisation" Initiative

In celebration of International Literacy Day on September 8th, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB) is proud to announce the launch of the "Literacy-Friendly Organisation" initiative. This groundbreaking effort, led by the Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Regional Adult Literacy Coalition, brings together a diverse group of public sector organisations committed to making our community more inclusive and supportive of individuals with literacy needs.

Literacy is the foundation for personal and professional growth, yet many adults in our region continue to face challenges in reading and writing and with everyday numeracy and digital skills. As public sector organisations, we frequently encounter individuals who need support in understanding and engaging with our services. By signing up as Literacy-Friendly Organisations, we are taking an important step towards breaking down barriers and ensuring that everyone in our community has equal access to the resources they need.

Organisations that commit to being Literacy-Friendly will:

  • Work to achieve that all communications and forms are easy to understand and accessible.
  • Provide staff with training to recognise and assist individuals with literacy needs.
  • Actively promote literacy awareness and connect individuals with local support services.
  • Collaborate with other organisations and initiatives to improve literacy outcomes in our region.

We invite all public sector organisations in Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim to join us in this initiative. By working together, we can create a community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

On this International Literacy Day, let's celebrate the power of literacy and our collective commitment to making a difference.
