The National Transport Authority (NTA), in partnership with Bus Éireann, has launched the new S3 route as part of the Sligo Town Bus Service expansion.
National Transport Authority and Bus Éireann Announce Enhanced Sligo Town Bus Services
Passengers will benefit from the new S3 route, which will run hourly between Markievicz Road and Finisklin, seven days a week which began on Sunday, 2 February. The service will offer seventeen daily trips from Monday to Saturday and fifteen daily trips on Sundays. The S3 aims to enhance connectivity for commuters traveling for work, education, leisure, and onward connections via bus and rail.
In addition to the new S3 route, passengers on existing routes S1 and S2 will see significant improvements.
Route S1, which serves Cartron to Cairns Road, will now include hourly evening services from 18:30 to midnight, operating seven days a week. Two new stops have been added (Southbound) at Hollymount and Clarion Village, improving access to ATU Sligo and surrounding areas.
Route S2, connecting Strandhill and Rosses Point, will follow a revised route with new stops at Rosses Point Promenade, Oyster Island, and an additional stop at Wine Street (from Strandhill to Rosses Point).

This enhanced public transport offering underscores the NTA and Bus Éireann’s commitment to supporting regional growth, sustainability, and community connectivity. While the S3 service began on the 2 February, the route will require further infrastructure
works in the coming weeks and we kindly ask for the public’s patience as there will be temporary stops along the route for the coming weeks.

It is crucially important that we now use the new S3 bus, and I would encourage everyone to give it a go.”
