A civic reception to honour Ryan O'Sullivan, the youngest Irish mountaineer to conquer the Seven Summits challenge was hosted by Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr Tom Fox on Wednesday evening, 15th May.

Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr Fox commended Ryan's extraordinary achievement and recognised the honour and pride he has brought to the local community.
Ryan O'Sullivan, at the age of 27, has etched his name in the annals of mountaineering history by successfully summiting the highest peaks on every continent. His journey has been one of determination, perseverance, and unwavering dedication over the past 11 years. Throughout this remarkable feat, Ryan has exemplified the indomitable human spirit and the pursuit of excellence.
The culmination of Ryan's incredible journey came on January 8, 2024, when he reached the summit of Mount Vinson, the seventh and final peak of the Seven Summits challenge. Located in Antarctica, Mount Vinson stands at an impressive height of 4,892 meters. This achievement follows Ryan's triumphant ascent of Mount Everest last year, marking the completion of the sixth summit in his audacious endeavour.
Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr Fox, in his speech, acknowledged Ryan's remarkable persistence and resilience. He highlighted Ryan's journey, which began at the age of 16 with the conquest of Kilimanjaro, and how he set his sights on achieving the seemingly impossible task of conquering all seven summits on his very first attempt.
