Brexit Adjustment Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme 2022-2023

The EU Brexit Adjustment Reserve funded a new scheme in January 2022 to rejuvenate Local Authority public piers and harbours throughout coastal communities in Ireland including County Sligo.

€622,000 was granted to Sligo County Council under the Brexit Adjustment: Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme 2022 – 2023.

The following works were carried out:

Bungar Buoy

The installation of this replacement navigation aid means mariners now have a suitable aid to navigate the deep waters in Sligo Bay.

Easkey Pier

Extensive works took place to protect the seaward facing wall of this structure.

Mullaghmore Harbour

Extensive repair works took place on the seaward facing wall which was beginning to fall in to disrepair.

Pollatheeney Pier

A replacement navigation light was installed to facilitate local fishermen.

Pollnadiva Pier

Masonry repair works were carried out here. In addition, suitable handrails were installed to assist locals collecting periwinkles and crabs from the shore at low tide.

Raghly Harbour

Repairs to masonry walls took place at this important fishing harbour.

Sligo City Marina

Welfare facilities were installed to accommodate visiting leisure craft crews.

The Brexit Adjustment Reserve Local Authority Marine Infrastructure (BALAMI) Scheme 2022-2023 was a special one-off emergency instrument, designed to support economic sectors, businesses, and local communities and to support job creation and protection by distributing Brexit Adjustment Reserve funds to enhance, upgrade, modernise and develop Ireland’s publicly owned coastal and marine infrastructure to facilitate diversification of economic opportunities. The Department of Agriculture, Food and The Marine administered the Scheme.
