Council Pays Tribute to Mona McSharry
‘Mona has made Irish sporting history by becoming only the second Irish swimmer to reach an Olympic final. People in County Sligo were well aware of her talent and her dedication, and now she has showcased these qualities on the world stage.
Mona’s journey to the Olympic Finals has been a long and arduous one, it involved years of intense training and unbelievable commitment and it is heartening to see this effort rewarded. She is one of our finest sporting ambassadors and there is no limit to what she can achieve in the future.’
Sligo County Council’s Acting Chief Executive Tom Kilfeather said ‘Mona is a credit to Irish swimming and Irish sport, and her progress and that of her colleague Christopher O’Donnell has been a great source of pride to the village of Grange and the wider community.’
