World of Work programme
The Skills@ Work Programme provides 2nd year students with an opportunity to experience a ‘Day in the Life’ of the organisation that their school is partnered with and Sligo County Council, through the Cranmore Regeneration Project, delivered this programme in partnership with the Mercy College.
Five sessions on various aspects of the work undertaken by SCC / CRP were delivered, with the Cathaoirleach, Cllr Dara Mulvey and staff from various sections of SCC participating. Sessions covered various topics including A Day in the Life of Staff, communication skills, the role of the Cathaoirleach and what happens at a Council meeting, Health and Wellbeing, Volunteering, the services offered by Sligo Library, the work of the Council Vet and the Cranmore Regeneration Project.
Feedback from one of the participating students:
“I really enjoyed hearing about the Architects experience and I am going to look at studying architecture”.
Fania Ellison, BITCI Co-ordinator noted that:
“Sligo County Council facilitated an excellent World of Work programme for second year students at Mercy College this year. Despite Covid, Council employees delivered a series of sessions online highlighting the skills and qualities needed in the world of work”.
