Minutes of Annual General Meeting of The Municipal District of Sligo-Drumcliff held on Monday 28th June 2021 at 12.00 p.m. in The Council Chamber, County Hall, Riverside, Sligo

CATHAOIRLEACH:

The Cathaoirleach, Councillor Thomas Walsh, presided and welcomed all present to the Annual General Meeting. He began by thanking Sligo County Council Executive and staff for their efficiency and support throughout the year. Councillor Walsh said that it had been a quiet year in the role and a challenging year for families in communities. He thanked everyone across the Municipal District for the sacrifices that they had made during the pandemic and lockdown. He also thanked frontline workers.

During his outgoing address, Councillor Walsh referenced a number of local projects, including Slish Wood/Union Wood and the SLNCR Greenway while highlighting the need for investment in rural areas, particularly in scenic areas. Councillor Walsh thanked his colleague Minister Heather Humphreys for her understanding of rural issues and funding received for various schemes and projects which are being delivered throughout the Municipal District. Councillor Walsh paid tribute to the community and voluntary sector, particularly the Ballygawley/Ballintogher community who received second place in the 2021 National Pride of Place Awards.

Councillor Walsh concluded by wishing his successor well and assuring them of his support.

Members thanked and congratulated outgoing Cathaoirleach, Councillor Walsh on his term as Chairperson.

T. Kilfeather, A/Chief Executive thanked Councillor Walsh for his role as Cathaoirleach.

 

1.  ELECTION OF CATHAOIRLEACH:

Councillor T. Healy proposed Councillor D. Gilroy as Cathaoirleach of the Sligo – Drumcliff Municipal District which Councillor Gilroy declined.

It was then:

Proposed by Councillor T. Fox
Jointly Seconded by Councillor D. Gilroy and Councillor. T. Walsh

AND AGREED

“To elect Councillor Marie Casserly as Cathaoirleach of Sligo- Drumcliff Municipal District”.

Councillor M. Casserly then assumed the role of Chair and addressed the meeting thanking her proposer and seconders for their nominations.  Councillor M. Casserly thanked all of the staff of Sligo County Council and commended them for their support and work, particularly during the roll out of services during the pandemic.

Councillor M. Casserly stated that she would ensure leadership and hard work locally while continuing to work nationally with Deputy Marian Harkin T.D.

Councillor M. Casserly highlighted her intention to continue to campaign for services needed in Sligo and to retain the vital services Sligo has, amongst these, a new Garda Station and promoting Sligo as a hub for remote working.  The refurbishment of the Teeling Monument, work with the Sligo Food Trail, and the promotion of Sligo as a tourist destination on the Wild Atlantic Way were also mentioned.  Councillor M. Casserly also stated her continued support for capital projects and concluded her address by wishing two athletes from North Sligo well as they compete on the world stage.

Councillor M. Casserly was congratulated by the members on her election as Cathaoirleach and she was assured of their support.

Mr. T. Kilfeather, A/Chief Executive offered his congratulations to Councillor M. Casserly and stated that she would have the full support of the council staff in the year ahead.

 

2.  ELECTION OF LEAS-CHATHAOIRLEACH:

Proposed by Councillor T. Walsh
Seconded by Councillor D. Gilroy

AND AGREED

“To elect Councillor Tom Fox as Leas-Chathaoirleach of Sligo-Drumcliff Municipal District”.

Councillor T. Fox was congratulated on his election as Leas-Chathaoirleach of the Sligo-Drumcliff Municipal District.

 

The business of the meeting concluded at 12.35p.m.
