Minutes of the Meeting of the Borough District of Sligo Held on Monday 14th July 2025 at 10.00am in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo


COUNCILLORS PRESENT:

  • Councillor Declan Bree,
  • Councillor Arthur Gibbons,
  • Councillor Ann Higgins (joined remotely),
  • Councillor Gino O’Boyle,
  • Councillor Fergal Nealon.

 

OFFICIALS IN ATTENDANCE:

  • Mr Brían Flynn - Director of Services,
  • Ms Sorcha Sheehy - Executive Engineer,
  • Ms Nola Gibbons – Staff Officer,
  • Ms Orla Murrin - Staff Officer.

 

APOLOGIES:

MAYOR: 

Mayor Councillor Tom MacSharry presided.

 

1.   ELECTION OF MAYOR:

Proposed by Councillor Bree
Seconded by Councillor Gibbons

“That Councillor Gino O’Boyle be elected as Mayor for the Brough District of Sligo”

AND AGREED

As there were no other nominations, Councillor O’Boyle was elected Mayor of the Borough District of Sligo Municipal District and then assumed the Chair.

 

2.   ELECTION OF DEPUTY MAYOR:

Proposed by Councillor Bree
Seconded by Councillor O’Boyle

“That Councillor Arthur Gibbons be elected as Deputy Mayor of the Borough District of Sligo”.

AND AGREED

As there were no other nominations, Councillor Gibbons was elected Deputy Mayor of the Borough District of Sligo Municipal District

 

3.   AOB:

Cllr Bree highlighted a disturbing incident of racial harassment which happened at the textile recycling banks located at Aldi on the Cranmore Road, a video of which had been circulating on social media in recent weeks.  Cllr Bree condemned the incident stating that hate has no place in our community.

Cllr O’Boyle supported Cllr Bree’s statement.
