Minutes of Annual General Meeting of The Borough District of Sligo held on Monday 27th June 2022 at 10.00 a.m. in The Council Chamber, City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo


COUNCILLORS PRESENT:

  • Councillor Arthur Gibbons (Mayor)
  • Councillor Tom MacSharry
  • Councillor Gino O’Boyle
  • Councillor Rosaleen O’Grady 

 

OFFICIALS IN ATTENDANCE:

  • Ms. Dorothy Clarke, Director of Services 
  • Mr. Kevin Colreavy, Administrative Officer
  • Ms. Fiona Gilligan, Staff Officer

MAYOR:

Before the meeting got underway, The Mayor, Councillor Arthur Gibbons thanked Council Staff for their support during his term of office, in particular Kevin Colreavy & Geraldine Flanagan in Corporate Services and David Mc Loughlin & Brenda Cullen in City Hall. The Mayor commented on the fact that the emergence from the Covid restrictions had resulted in a busy schedule and memorable highlights in particular were the ‘Children in Care’ book launch as well as visits by both the Palestinian & Chilean ambassadors respectively. The Mayor concluded by assuring the incoming Mayor of his support

 

1.  ELECTION OF MAYOR:

The Members congratulated outgoing Mayor, Councillor Arthur Gibbons. Councillor Mac Sharry said that he represented the members interests well and packed much into the short term given the covid restrictions. Councillor Bree commended him for the manner in how he conducted the MD meetings during his term. Councillor O’Boyle & Councillor O’Grady echoed these sentiments

Ms. Dorothy Clarke joined the members in congratulating the outgoing Mayor and wished him and his wife well for the future

It was then:

Proposed by Councillor R. O’Grady
Seconded by Councillor D. Bree

AND AGREED

That Councillor Tom MacSharry be elected as Mayor of the Borough District of Sligo”.

Councillor MacSharry assumed the position of Chair and addressed the meeting undertaking to chair the Municipal District over the next year in a fair and inclusive manner, ensuring all voices are heard and where equality prevails. The incoming Mayor went on to say that both he and his government party colleague councillors in particular will redouble their efforts to ensure that Sligo receives its fair share of all available funding

The members congratulated the incoming Mayor and Councillor Bree noted the incoming Mayors commitment to see the reinstatement of the Borough Council.

Ms. Dorothy Clarke joined the members in congratulating the incoming Mayor and assured him of the Staffs support for what will be a busy year

 

2.  ELECTION OF DEPUTY MAYOR:

Proposed by Councillor A. Gibbons
Seconded by Councillor D. Bree

AND AGREED

That Councillor Rosaleen O’Grady be elected as Deputy Mayor of the Borough District of Sligo

Councillor O’Grady thanked her proposer and seconder, and assured the Mayor of her full assistance for the coming year
