Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the Municipal District of Ballymote-Tubbercurry Held on Thursday 27th June, 2024 at 2pm in Teach Laighne, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo.

CATHAOIRLEACH:

Cathaoirleach, Councillor Joseph Queenan presided and welcomed everyone to the meeting.  Councillor Queenan welcomed especially Councillor Barry Gallagher and Councillor Liam Brennan, the two newly elected Members in the Ballymote Tubbercurry MD, commiserations to Martin Connolly and best wishes to Martin Baker on his retirement.

 

1. ELECTION OF CATHAOIRLEACH:

AND AGREED

“To elect Councillor Joe Queenan as Cathaoirleach of the Ballymote – Tubbercurry Municipal District.”

Councillor Queenan thanked the members on his re-election and stressed the importance that all members continue their hard work for the good of the whole area within the Municipal District.

 

2. ELECTION OF LEAS-CHATHAOIRLEACH:

“To elect Councillor Gerard Mullaney as Leas Cathaoirleach of the Ballymote Tubbercurry Municipal District.”

Councillor Mullaney thanked his proposer and seconder and assured the Cathaoirleach of his support.

Ms. Emer Concannon A/Director Service on her own behalf and on behalf of the staff of Sligo County Council congratulated Councillors Queenan and Mullaney and indeed all Elected Members.  She wished them well for the next 5 years and looks forward to supporting them in their work in the Municipal District.

 

3. APPOINTMENT TO COUNTY SLIGO PLACENAMES COMMITTEE (2):

7. APPOINTMENT TO SLIGO COUNTY COUNCIL PEACE PLUS PARTNERSHIP COMMITTEE (1):

“To appoint Councillor Gerard Mullaney to the Sligo County Council PEACE Plus Partnership Committee.”

 

8. ANY OTHER BUSINESS:

(i) ITEMS TO PROGRESS:

The following items were discussed as priority items for the term of the MD:

  • Progression of N17 and N59 Major Schemes
  • Progression of Safety Schemes on N17 including Clarkes Bridge, Templehouse Junction and Traffic Calming for Ballinacarrow.
  • CIS Funding: Additional funding required to clear the backlog from Dept. and SCC. Possible policy on prioritisation.
  • LIS: Possible policy on prioritisation.

Following further discussion on funding, it was,

“that Municipal District Chairpersons from Sligo County Council arrange a meeting with the Minister for Transport to discuss funding for 2025.” 

 

(ii) ROADS WORKS PROGRAMME

It was agreed that the Councillors would have an input into the 3 Year Roads Work Programme 2025-2027, but that roads are priorities based on a rating system. A presentation on the Roads Work Programme procedure would be given to the MD in September.

 

(iii) SPEED LIMIT REVIEW

It was agreed that a presentation on the Speed Limit Review would be given at the next MD Meeting.

 

9. VOTES OF SYMPATHY:
