Mr. Tom Brennan, Senior Engineer, informed Members that a total of just under €57m has been allocated from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (T.I.I.) (€40m), the Department of Transport (€15.3m) and Sligo County Council (€1.3m) for the improvement and maintenance of the public road network in Co. Sligo for 2021.

Mr. Brennan then proceeded to guide Members through the proposed programme of works which had been circulated in advance of the meeting. The programme specified the allocation of funding received, together with a detailed breakdown of all planned expenditure for the year in relation to specific projects and categorised headings and outlined each individual category that related to the Municipal District.

Mr. Brennan advised that the Footpath Enhancement Programme which sees €100,000 allocated to each of the three Municipal Districts will continue for 2021. Government Schemes such as the Active Travel Scheme and the Climate Change Adaptation Grant will also enable various works to be undertaken in terms of footpaths, flood prevention measures etc.

In conclusion, Mr. Brennan informed Members of the continuation of Community Involvement Schemes (C.I.S.), Local Improvement Schemes (L.I.S.) and CLÁR Schemes.

Members thanked Mr. Brennan for his detailed report and complimented the Roads staff for their continued good work in the District area.  The Active Travel Scheme was welcomed along with various bridge repairs and verge strengthening works.

In reply to specific queries, Mr. Brennan answered as follows:

N17 Route Selection:

Various options are being assessed at present, it is envisaged that a preferred option will emerge by year end.

Re-surfacing of L-601 (Templehouse area):
