Minutes of Annual General Meeting of Municipal District of Ballymote-Tubbercurry held on Monday 17th June 2019 at 12.00 p.m. in The Council Chamber, County Hall, Riverside, Sligo

CATHAOIRLEACH:

The Cathaoirleach, Councillor Joe Queenan, presided and welcomed all present to the Annual General Meeting. He began by thanking the Chief Executive and staff for their commitment and dedication and acknowledged the contributions made by former Councillors Margaret Gormley (R.I.P.), Keith Henry and Jerry Lundy. Councillor Queenan said it was a privilege to hold the title of Cathaoirleach for the last year and hoped that the good work achieved by the Municipal District will continue for the next five-year term. He concluded by wishing the new Councillors every success.

Members paid tribute to Councillor Queenan and acknowledged the fact that with a reduction in the number of Councillors in the Municipal District area, the 7 no. elected would have to continue to work together for the benefit of rural Sligo.

Tributes were also paid to former Councillor Margaret Gormley (R.I.P.).

 

1.  ELECTION OF CATHAOIRLEACH:

Proposed by Councillor M. Baker
Seconded by Councillor M. Clarke

AND AGREED

“To elect Councillor Paul Taylor as Cathaoirleach of Ballymote-Tubbercurry Municipal District”.

Councillor Paul Taylor then assumed the role of Chair and addressed the meeting thanking his proposer and seconder for their nominations and Councillor Joe Queenan as outgoing Cathaoirleach.

He then paid tribute to Councillor Margaret Gormley (R.I.P.) who he described as “a great ambassador for South Sligo”

Among the issues Councillor Taylor stated that he would like to progress in the new term included the upgrade of the Lough Talt water treatment plant, tourism projects such as the Sligo Greenway and the upgrading of the N17.

In concluding, Councillor Taylor welcomed incoming Councillors Martin Connolly and Gerard Mullaney and looks forward to working with his fellow Councillors and the Executive in the years ahead.  

 

The Chief Executive, Mr. Ciarán Hayes, congratulated Councillor Taylor in his new role and looks forward to working with him in future.

 

2.  ELECTION OF LEAS-CHATHAOIRLEACH:

Proposed by Councillor M. Connolly
Seconded by Councillor G. Mullaney

AND AGREED

“To elect Councillor Dara Mulvey as Leas-Chathaoirleach of Ballymote- Tubbercurry Municipal District”.

Councillor Dara Mulvey thanked his proposer and seconder for their nominations and wished Councillor Taylor well in his role as Cathaoirleach.

 

3.  REVIEW OF STANDING ORDERS:

The Chief Executive, Mr. Ciarán Hayes, confirmed that the quorum of three would not change despite the number of Members of the Municipal District reducing to 7 no.

The request of Members to continue to convene bi-monthly meetings was noted.

 

4.  ANY OTHER BUSINESS:

Arrangements for future meetings to be finalised following the convening of the Sligo-Drumcliff Municipal District meeting later that day.

The Cathaoirleach, Councillor Paul Taylor wished former Councillor Jerry Lundy well in his retirement.

 

The business of the meeting concluded at 12.30 p.m.
