Ballymote-Tubbercurry Minutes 2015

Minutes of Annual General Meeting of Ballymote-Tobercurry Municipal District held on Monday, 22nd June 2015 At 11am in Meeting Room 1, Teach Laighne, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo.

OPENING THE MEETING:

The Cathaoirleach, Councillor Martin Baker presided.  At the outset the Cathaoirleach advised the meeting of a request from the Development Planning Unit to change the date of the July meeting of the Municipal District of Ballymote-Tobercurry from 20th July to 13th July, 2015 in order to allow sufficient time to consult with the prescribed environmental authorities before putting the Proposed Amendments on public display.  This was agreed by the members. 

Sympathy was extended to the Connolly family on behalf of Bridget Connolly, staff member in Tubbercurry who is seriously ill.  Sympathy was also expressed to the families of students killed and others directly affected by the Berkeley tragedy in California.  The Cathaoirleach Councillor Baker led the meeting in a short prayer followed by the observation of a minute’s silence.

Councillor Baker then proceeded to thank the elected Members, the Chief Executive, Directors of Services and staff for their cooperation and support throughout his term as Cathaoirleach.  Councillor Baker highlighted the need for his successor to continue to fight for a more even spread of funding within the county. 

The members paid tribute to Councillor Baker on his term as Cathaoirleach and thanked him for conducting the meetings in a fair and balanced manner.  The Deputy Chief Executive Ms. D. Clarke also paid tribute to Councillor Baker’s work during his year as Cathaoirleach of the new municipal district.

“To elect Councillor Paul Taylor as Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District of Ballymote-Tobercurry.”

 

ELECT LEAS-CATHAOIRLEACH:

Proposed by Councillor M. Baker
Seconded by Councillor D. Mulvey

AND AGREED

“To elect Councillor Joe Queenan as Leas Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District of Ballymote-Tobercurry.”

The newly elected Cathaoirleach Councillor Paul Taylor then addressed the meeting. Councillor Taylor thanked Councillors Scanlon and Queenan for proposing his nomination and thanked the outgoing Cathaoirleach and Leas Cathaoirleach for their assistance over the past year.  Councillor Taylor also thanked his family and friends for their help and support and looked forward to the year ahead.  Congratulations were extended to the Sligo GAA men’s and ladies senior teams on their respective victories over Roscommon at the weekend. 

The members congratulated Councillor Taylor on his election as Cathaoirleach and wished him well for the coming year.  The Deputy Chief Executive Ms. D. Clarke congratulated both Councillor Taylor and Councillor Queenan on their election. She offered her support and that of the management team and staff in their term in office.

Title of Municipal District

The members requested that Dromore West/Enniscrone (or West Sligo) be added to the name of the Municipal District.  This was so as to give recognition to the citizens of West Sligo and to ensure that they felt included in the sub-unit of local democracy.  The Deputy Chief Executive explained that the name(s) of all Municipal Districts were agreed as part of the preparation of the Local Electoral Area Boundary Committee Report of 2013 and the Municipal District of Ballymote-Tobercurry was listed as including all of the southern and western parts of County Sligo which were incorporated into a single local electoral area to be titled “Ballymote-Tobercurry”.  It was agreed that the Executive would explore if West Sligo could be included on the name of the Municipal District and will revert to members in due course.

 

Advert for Post of General Operative

The Members asked if any vacancies of General Operative (G.O.) would be filled following recent advertisement for the formation of a panel for G.O.s and looked for clarification as to what the situation is with the filing of positions.  The Deputy Chief Executive clarified the situation and the link to Irish Water in relation to the filling of vacancies.  Written clarification to be forwarded to members again explaining why it is necessary to form such a panel.
