Minutes of Annual General Meeting of The Municipal District of Sligo held on Monday, 20th June 2016 at 2pm in The Council Chamber, City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo


COUNCILLORS PRESENT:

OPENING THE MEETING:

Councillor Thomas Healy, Mayor, presided.

Members extended their congratulations to the Mayor for the manner in which he had represented Sligo with distinction.

Appreciation was also extended by the Members to Councillor Healy’s wife, Majella and their family for all the hard work and assistance they gave throughout the year.

The Mayor thanked the Members for their good wishes and said his year had shown that through the D’Hondt system, by working together, so much could be done.

Councillor Healy extended his thanks to the Chief Executive, Directors of Services and staff for their support throughout his term as Mayor.

The Mayor wished Councillor Casserly and her family well for the year ahead and thanked those who had helped him throughout the year. In particular he wished to thank the Elected Members, his Cumann, former Deputy Michael Colreavy, current Deputy Martin Kenny and the Sinn Féin members who had assisted him. The Mayor said his Deputy Mayor, Councillor Seamus Kilgannon, had helped him on many occasions, sometimes at short notice, and this was appreciated.

Councillor Healy said he had enjoyed his year and had achieved his ambition that Volunteers would get the recognition they deserved. It was also his desire that work on Town Twinning with Sligo would continue.

 

1. ELECT MAYOR:

It was then:

Proposed by Councillor G.O’Boyle
Seconded by Councillor S. Maguire

AND AGREED

“To elect Councillor Marie Casserly as Mayor of the Municipal District of Sligo.

The newly elected Mayor, Councillor Casserly, addressed the meeting.

The Mayor advised the Meeting that she would not only be representing the people of North Sligo but all of Sligo and thanked her proposer, seconder and the Members for their support.

Councillor Casserly remembered her late father, John, and said it would be a proud day for him as it was for the rest of her family who were with her in the Chamber.

Congratulations were extended to the outgoing Mayor on a very successful year and Councillor Casserly outlined her ambitions for her year ahead in particular assisting the marginalised in every way possible, the promotion of Sligo, working with the team for Sligo European Volunteering Capital for 2017 and an additional Event to replace the Fleadh for both locals and tourists to enjoy and assisting I. T. Sligo in their endeavours to gain University status.

The Mayor advised the Meeting that she had taken a career break to focus on her role for the year ahead.

The Meeting then proceeded to the election of the Deputy Mayor.
  

2. ELECT DEPUTY MAYOR: 

Proposed by Councillor T. MacSharry
Seconded by Councillor S. MacManus

AND AGREED

“To elect Councillor Gino O’Boyle as Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Sligo.

Councillor O’Boyle thanked the Members for their nomination and support and assured the Mayor of his support and assistance during the year ahead.

The Chief Executive congratulated the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor and offered his support and that of the management team and staff in their term in office.
