Minutes of Annual General Meeting of The Municipal District of Sligo held on Monday, 22nd June 2015 at 3pm in The Council Chamber, City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo


COUNCILLORS PRESENT:

OPENING THE MEETING:

The Mayor, Councillor Tom MacSharry presided.  Councillor MacSharry thanked the elected Members, the Chief Executive, Directors of Services and staff for their cooperation and support throughout his year as Mayor.  Councillor MacSharry made reference to the changes in Local Government and stated that in his view the abolition of Borough Council’s was a retrograde step.  Councillor MacSharry acknowledged the work carried out by many organisations and community groups and gave a special mention to the work of the Sligo Tidy Towns. 

 

The members paid tribute to Councillor MacSharry on his term as Mayor and thanked him for his way of conducting the meetings in a fair and balanced manner and highlighted the Fleadh Cheoil and the Royal Visit as landmark events which showed Sligo in a very positive light. 

 

1.  ELECT MAYOR:

It was then:

Proposed by Councillor S. MacManus 
Seconded by Councillor D. Bree

AND AGREED

“To elect Councillor Thomas Healy as Mayor of the Municipal District of Sligo.”

 

2.  ELECT MAYOR:

Proposed by Councillor T. MacSharry
Seconded by Councillor H. Keaney

AND AGREED

“To elect Councillor Seamus Kilgannon as Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Sligo.”

 

The newly elected Mayor Councillor Thomas Healy then addressed the meeting. Councillor Healy thanked Councillors MacManus and Bree for proposing his nomination and thanked the outgoing Mayor and Deputy Mayor for their assistance over the past year.  Councillor Healy also thanked his family and friends for their help and support and looked forward to the year ahead.  Councillor Healy also expressed sympathy to the families of students killed and others directly affected by the Berkeley tragedy in California.  This was supported by all members present.

The members congratulated Councillor Healy on his election as Mayor and wished him well for the coming year.

The Deputy Chief Executive Ms. D. Clarke congratulated both Councillor Healy and Councillor Kilgannon on their election. She offered her support and that of the management team and staff in their term in office.
