CATHAOIRLEACH:
- The Cathaoirleach, Councillor P. Branley presided.
Councillor P. Branley thanked his colleagues, the County Manager and staff for their support and encouragement during his term as Cathaoirleach. He referred to his signing of the contracts for the Inner Relief Road as one of the highlights of his term. He noted with pleasure that the One Stop Shop in Tubbercurry is nearing completion. He stated that Mr K. Colreavy, Communications Officer and Ms M. Mc Connell, Senior Executive Officer were invaluable throughout his year in office and thanked them for all their help. He stated that he was delighted that Councillor PJ Cawley was to be his successor.
The members complimented Councillor P. Branley on the way he performed his duties during his term of office.
Mr H. Kearns, County Manager on behalf of the management and staff of the Council complimented the outgoing Cathaoirleach, Councillor P. Branley on his work during his term of office and wished him well.
ELECTION OF CATHAOIRLEACH:
Proposed by Councillor J. Leonard
Seconded by Councillor E. Scanlon
“That Councillor PJ Cawley be nominated to the position of Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council”.
Proposed by Councillor S. Mac Manus
Seconded by Councillor A. Parke
“That Councillor M. Gormley be nominated to the position of Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council”.
Councillor M. Gormley thanked the members for their support but withdrew her name from the nominations and stated that she would be delighted and honoured to have Councillor PJ Cawley preside as Cathaoirleach.
As there was only one remaining nomination the outgoing Cathaoirleach, Councillor P. Branley declared Councillor PJ Cawley elected as the new Cathaoirleach.
Councillor PJ Cawley took the Chair. He thanked the members for their support and stated that he was looking forward to the year ahead. He invited nominations for the position of Leas Cathaoirleach.
ELECTION OF LEAS CATHAOIRLEACH:
Proposed by Councillor A. Colleary
Seconded by Councillor P. Conmy
“That Councillor J. Queenan be nominated to the position of Leas Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council”.
Proposed by Councillor A. Parke
Seconded by Councillor S. Mac Manus
“That Councillor M. Gormley be nominated to the position of Leas Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council”.
As there were two nominations for the position of Leas Cathaoirlech, the Cathaoirleach, Councillor PJ Cawley asked that a poll be taken and that the members indicate their preference for either Councillor J. Queenan or Councillor M. Gormley.
For Councillor Queenan: Barrett, Barry, Branley, L. Conlon, A. Colleary, M. Conlon, Conmy, Devins, Fleming, Fox, Higgins, Leonard, Mc Guinn, Mc Loughlin, Perry, Queenan, E. Scanlon.
For Councillor Gormley: Bree, Cawley, Gormley, MacManus, Parke, B. Scanlon.
As the result was 17 votes for Councillor J. Queenan and 6 votes for Councillor M. Gormley the Cathaoirleach declared Councillor J. Queenan elected as the new Leas Cathaoirleach.
The members congratulated Councillor J. Queenan on his new position as Leas Cathaoirleach.
The meeting ended at 4.55p.m.
