“Given that the N59 Corhownagh to Lugnadeffa realignment is shovel ready for five years and that no funding has being received in recent years and given that the N17 only received one million in 2025 to progress the project, I call on Sligo County Council to write to the Taoiseach, Micheál Martin T.D., to commit to providing funding for the N59 and to give assurance that N17 will receive the funding to be completed not like the N59.”

Casserly:

Mulvey:
“I ask Sligo County Council to write to the Department of Housing to ask what funding strategy can be put in place to enable the local authority to build extensions/convert attics for additional bedrooms for families who are in overcrowded council housing.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor D. Mulvey:
“To ask Sligo County Council for an update on the amount of successful applications awaiting funding under the CIS and LIS roads upgrade scheme.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor M. Clarke:

“To seek a report from Sligo County Council on the Connaughton Road site with a view to developing a landmark museum, incorporating a heritage and visitor centre, located in the heart of Sligo, to reflect and promote the county’s significant historical and cultural assets.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor T. Walsh:
“Given recent works undertaken on the public roads network in Sligo and the conditions the public roads were left in following the work, that Sligo County Council contact Uisce Éireann for clarity around the following:- On foot of Uisce Éireann having to excavate/dig any part of a public road network as part of a repair (unscheduled work), what timeframe should the road be permanently repaired following the emergency work under Uisce Éireann policy?
- On foot of Uisce Éireann having to alter any part of a public road surface as part of scheduled work, what timeframe should the road be permanently repaired following the works under Uisce Éireann policy?”
- To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor T. Walsh:
“Following on from my motion of 7th May, 2025, and subsequent briefing on the matter, that Sligo County Council give this Council an update into the Bus Stop Programme, the planned rollout in 2026 and 2027, the identified location for shelters -v- T.F.I. poles and rationale for same and expected timelines for delivery.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor G. O’Boyle:
“That Sligo County Council requests the Chief Executive to prepare a report for the elected members on the feasibility of the Council re-entering the household waste collection market as a direct public service, including estimated costs, funding options, potential impacts on household charges, service standards, recycling rates and illegal dumping, and to also outline alternative models such as a local authority-led franchise or single-operator system.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor G. O’Boyle:
“That Sligo County Council notes with deep concern the Government’s decision to ratify CETA and, in particular, the Investor Court System (ICS).
This Council believes that ICS gives foreign corporations powers that undermine local democracy, threaten environmental and planning decisions, and risk exposing the State to costly investor lawsuits. Sligo County Council therefore calls on the Government to suspend Ireland’s participation in the ICS element of CETA pending a full, independent assessment of its impacts on local authorities, public services, and environmental protections.
This motion to be circulated to all Local Authorities, all Sligo–Leitrim TDs and Senators, and the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor G. O’Boyle:
“That Sligo County Council calls on the Government to strengthen protections for renters, including action on no-fault evictions, and requests the Chief Executive to report on how the Council can improve enforcement of rental standards and tenant supports locally.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor E. McSharry:
“That Sligo County Council write to the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley TD, calling on her to provide recurrent funding to place the Sligo–Leitrim Autism Support Service on a permanent footing.
This Council notes that this pilot service was established to support autistic young people at key transition points in their education, in particular the transition from second year to third year, and from Leaving Certificate to further education, training or employment. An independent evaluation has demonstrated highly positive outcomes for participating young people and schools, with strong demand reflected in ongoing referrals and a current waiting list.
Notwithstanding its proven effectiveness, the pilot service is due to cease in March. This Council therefore calls on the Minister to invest in sustained funding for at least two Autism Support Officers and to formally establish this service on a permanent basis for the Sligo–Leitrim area, recognising its significant inclusion, education, social and long-term economic benefits.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor T. Healy:
“To call on Sligo County Council to support the opening of the western rail corridor from Sligo to Claremorris and to seek the support of TD and stakeholders from this region the reinstatement of the Western Rail Corridor is vital both for the economic and social development of the west and northwest and for environmental safety.” this is vital important for Sligo Leitrim Donegal as a region of growth we can't afford to be left behind.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor T. Healy:
“To call on Sligo County Council to write to Uisce Eireann outlining the concerns on the way that road resurfacing is left after water main works and for them to address this matter going forward and an agreement with Sligo roads department on the way this work on our roads is carried out.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor D. Bree:
“That the meeting be advised as to the number of households on the Councils Housing Waiting list that received Notices of Termination from private landlords in 2025.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor D. Bree:
“That this Council (a) Welcomes the confirmation by the Government that the extension of the Western Rail Corridor from Athenry to Claremorris as a freight and passenger railway is to commence as a priority project to be completed by 2030 as set out in Regional Policy Objective 6.13a of the Regional Spatial Economic Strategy (RSES); and (b) Welcomes the confirmation by Iarnród Éireann that the railway from Claremorris to Sligo is to be kept for future rail use only as set out in Regional Policy Objective 6.13b of the RSES with a view to its future development as a freight and passenger railway connecting Sligo to Galway and serving Ireland West Airport.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor F. Nealon:
"That Sligo County Council write to the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth requesting confirmation of the expected timeline for the phased arrival of all International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) residents to the new developments at Globe House, Sligo, and requesting that the Minister set out the additional supports and resources to be provided to ensure local services can meet increased demand.
In particular, that the Minister outline the measures planned to support educational provision — including primary and post-primary enrolment capacity and provision for special educational needs — as well as social work, health, and community services, noting that existing services in the Sligo are operating at or near full capacity.
This request is made to ensure appropriate advance planning and resourcing so that all members of the community, current and incoming, have fair access to the services they require." - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor A. Higgins:
“2025 has been a very difficult year on Irish roads with 190 fatalities, the blackest period in over twelve years. Every life lost is a reminder that road safety is not just about statistics. Countries with low traffic mortalities are mainly characterized by strict enforcement of traffic laws, good public transport system and investment in road maintenance, use of safer designs in vehicles, different lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, and low-speed limits, especially in urban areas.
This motion calls for Sligo County Council to write to the Minister for Transport calling for a renewed focus on road safety to be translated into immediate tangible actions including:- The introduction of the Road Traffic Bill to fulfil Programme for Government commitments, including in relation to graduated speeding penalties and camera-based enforcement of mobile phone and seatbelt offences;
- The expedition of the urban speed limit review by LAs to include reducing some roads and streets to 30km/h (currently due by March 27);
- The inclusion of representatives from the Victims Campaign Groups on the board of the Road Safety Authority;
- An overhaul of the current driver testing process to include the introduction of drivers permits for tractors and a focus on vulnerable road users (pedestrians, cyclists and users of powered two-wheelers and personal mobility devices).”
- To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor A. Higgins:
“Given that fact that our recent request for a meeting with the NTA has been declined, this motion calls on Sligo County Council to write to the NTA with the following queries on the recently reintroduced S3 bus service:- That the route is extended to include a loop around the Ursuline Convent, Seaville estate, Builders Providers, Lidl area and also Sligo University Hospital and ATU Sligo, which will encourage more users;
- What plans are in place to install covered bus shelters along the route.
Additionally, a request should issue to schedule an online call with representatives from NTA to discuss the issues of public transport connectivity across the county as it is essential that members are provided with an opportunity to air the issues/queries raised by our constituents.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor A. Higgins:
“Recent trends of street development in Sligo consists of paving all areas with grey paving and adding trees, flowers and vegetation in planters after completion of developments. This results in trees in large box planters being added as an afterthought taking up extra space instead of being included as a critical element of the design. Studies show that increasing tree canopy cover can significantly reduce temperatures in city centres and avoid the urban heat island effect.
This motion calls on Sligo County Council to adopt a policy of including grass verges, wildflower verges and tree planting during construction at ground level where possible in future developments, to explore opportunities for wildflower planting across existing suitable sites and to consider alternative colours for paving to enhance our streetscape.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor B. Gallagher:
“To call on Sligo County Council to contact the HSE and Minister for Health Jennifer Carrol MacNeill that it is of paramount importance that Sligo (Sligo Airport) becomes the base for the new HEMS helicopter.
This is a vital service for the region since the S-92 has now left and the AW189 operated by Bristow while the aircraft is approved for both Search and Rescue and HEMS it is not dual-purpose at the same time.” - 4.23 To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor B. Gallagher:
“To call on Sligo County Council to contact Eir / Open Eir requesting the following as a matter of urgency.- All un-used / non active phone line cables throughout Sligo be taken off all poles. This will reduce the weight burden on Poles especially during storms.
- What is the active amount of telephone lines throughout the County especially in Rural areas. With new technology Voice over IP (VoIP ) in fibre cables should be achievable eliminating the old copper phone line system and need for all the old cabling on Poles.
- Replace all old poles throughout the county which are leaning out onto Local and National roads causing obstructions.
- Since Storm Eowyn cables have come off the poles and are just slinging along diches and roadways. This is not acceptable. Many more cables are tied down to farm fences or just tied around each other and some just gathered up and cable tied to close by poles. From this I take it that a lot of these lines are already redundant.
- Where safety works are carried out by Sligo County County Roads Department through the Road Safety Improvement Schemes at junctions onto main road it must be compulsory that Eir poles are moved back to the new ditch or fence position at the expense to Eir / Open Eir. It is pointless taking away ditches and widening entrance roadways and then an Eir pole is still in the motorists line of site and the pole itself is in no man’s land.”
- To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor T. Walsh:
“That Sligo County Council write to the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and Minister of State for Financial Services, Credit Unions and Insurance to seek an update on insurance reforms including the introduction of a transparency code and the provision of a cap for certain categories of personal injuries awards to ensure the community and voluntary sector is protected against serial claimants.” - To consider the following motion as submitted by E. McSharry:
“That this Council requests the Planning Department to clarify the current planning policy and assessment criteria used to determine housing need for returning Irish citizens and emigrants wishing to build homes in rural areas, including how intrinsic links to local communities are assessed, and that this council requests the planning dept to ensure the policy in relation to such applications are considered favourably in recognition of the importance of supporting rural regeneration and encouraging the return of skilled workers and professionals to our communities”. - To consider the following motion as submitted by: E. McSharry:
“That this Council calls on the Minister for Education, Hildegarde Naughton TD, to urgently intervene in the ongoing dispute affecting caretakers and secretaries in schools, including disability and special schools where negotiations on pay parity and access to public service pension entitlements have broken down. The Council recognises the vital role these staff play in the operation and safety of schools and urges the Minister to prioritise resolution to ensure fair treatment, stability, and continuity of services for students and staff alike”. - To consider the following motion as submitted by D. Mulvey:
“That Sligo County Council write to ESB to clarify the reason for it price hikes prices on EV charging which have increased by up to 15pc, with some drivers paying €7 more per charge. The price rises on Ireland’s biggest public charging network for electric cars means that the cost of fully charging some EVs has risen to above €60, making it almost as expensive as petrol or diesel for a similar driving range. At a time when people are been encouraged more and more to switch to electric vehicles, In 2025, Ireland saw a record electric vehicle (EV) sales, with approximately 23,601 new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) registered. This problem is particularly bad for people with no home charging availability due to living in apartments and are having to use public chargers for 100% of their charging time”. - To consider the following motion as submitted by D. Gilroy:
“That a report to give details of what correspondence was sent by Sligo County Council to Irish Rail / Iarnród Eireann and what response was received from Irish Rail / Iarnród Eireann to Sligo County Council regarding Item 25 June 2023 regarding additional parking at Sligo and Collooney Train stations.
And to further advise if Bus Éireann were advised of the need for additional parking at this location as part of their discussions regarding the use of the old car park at the back of the train station for Electric Bus Charging currently subject to a planning application and recent Further Information.
This motion seeks the approval of the members to show that the Site planned for Electric Bus Charging is in the opinion of the elected members the wrong location and that as per the 2023 Motion and the previous Motion by Cllr. Kilgannon from 2016 this area should be used for passenger parking and that Bus Charging does not need to be carried out at the prime TC2 Commercial and Mixed-Use Site in the centre of town”. - 4.29 To consider the following motion as submitted by D. Gilroy:
“That following the installation of Speed Ramp / Speed Bumbs at Cartron on the N15 that Sligo County Council proceed to provide Similar or Raised Platform type speed control and pedestrian Safety in all towns and villages within the county where a current 50kph zone exists.
When previously requested members were told that these would not be allowed on National Primary and National Secondary roads, this appears to show TII are now listening but they must be told that the safety of Children and Pedestrians in every village from Bellaghy in the south to Cliffoney in the North and Dromore West in the West will be treated in the same way”. - To consider the following motion as submitted by D. Gilroy:
“That Sligo County Council carry out a survey of the traffic light system on the inner relief road as motorists are reading the lights wrongly and this may cause accidents- Lights at Junction S7 Southbound remain red and there are no cars between S7 and S6. Vehicles regularly see the S6 Light go green and proceed forward risking impact with vehicles proceeding from Lord Edward St.
- Drivers in outside lane at R291 Rosses Point Road Junction South Bound Cars who are proceeding South regularly seem to only see the Full Red Light on their Right which is in effect a Red Light for the right turn lane. Can this be changed to a Red Right Turn Arrow? Currently the Driver can have three Green Straight ahead Arrows on the left and one on the Right with three Full Red lights on the Right nearest to the driver in the outside lane and causing confusion.
While accepting that all junctions are done in accordance with guidelines, the number of motorists unfamiliar with the layout of these junctions needs to be added to the calculation”.
- To consider the following motion as submitted by L. Brennan:
“To call on Sligo County Council for an update on how many Housing Adaption Grant Applications (2025) are on hold pending extra funding approval, and when will the housing adaption grant scheme for 2026 recommence? These grants are of great support for the vulnerable, elderly and disabled within our community”. - To consider the following motion as submitted by D. Bree:
“That the meeting be informed as to how many applications were made to the Council in respect of retrospective planning permission or retention and how many were approved in 2025?” - To consider the following motion as submitted by A. Gibbons:
“That this local authority calls on the Irish Government to abolish all further Taxes on Diesel, Petrol, Gas, home heating oil and Coal from the 1st January 2026 until such times the cost-of-living crisis has passed”. - To consider the following motion as submitted by A. Gibbons:
“That this local authority calls on the Minister for Education and Youth, Hildegarde Naughton, and the Irish Government to bring in legislation to ensure that every child with additional needs has a place in their local Primary and secondary school”.
