    “That Sligo County Council supports the Irish Congress of Trade Unions ‘Get Up Stand Up’ campaign, particularly the five key demands:-
    1. Tackle the jobs’ crisis
    2. Stop cuts to peoples’ incomes
    3. Protect vital services
    4. Safeguard peoples’ homes
    5. Make the wealthy pay their fair share.

    And further, recognising that (a) a third of public service workers earn less than €40,000 a year; (b) every public servant has already suffered a pay cut – averaging 7.5% this year, (c) the economic crisis was not caused by public spending or public servants; this Council endorses the Impact trade unions campaign to save vital public services.”

    “That Sligo County Council notes that the Government in its emergency budget last April announced that the Christmas Social Welfare Payment (known as the Christmas bonus) would not be paid this year.  Recognising that the removing of this payment will cause great hardship to many on social welfare this Council calls on the Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan and the Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Mary Hanifin to restore the Christmas Social Welfare Payment”

    “That the Council be provided with a report indicating (1) what plans there are for the provision of social and affordable housing in the county for 2010 and 2011 (2) the number of applicants currently on the Councils housing waiting list (3) a breakdown of the waiting list i.e. family units, single people, elderly etc.”

    “That Sligo County Council applies to renew their Membership of the Sligo Tourist Development Board which was set up in association with the Local Authorities thirty years ago. This will ensure that we as Local Authorities can help the local Tourist Industry grow and hence improve the Local economy”.

  31. To consider the following motion as submitted by Councillor D. Mulvey
    “That Sligo County Council would call on the Minister for Health and Children to ensure that full grant funding under NCIP is paid to Little Haven Crèche in Coolaney, in light of the fact that the Minister for Children, Barry Andrews himself cut the tape at the opening of the facility and a firm commitment by Government was given that the NCIP funding of €1.2M would be paid to the facility, and now approval of the grant has been decommitted, which means the Crèche which is a vital facility in Coolaney, will be unable to continue to operate”

    “That Sligo County Council would call on the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to dramatically increase the allocation of funding for Tidy Towns in County Sligo, in light of the fact that it is inferior to the allocation provided to the rest of the Country. As a hardworking voluntary organisation, it is difficult to ignore futility of competing in a national competition when the level of funding versus expenditure by the group is so low; and that Sligo County Council would indicate when promised grant money of €800 would be paid, and when the €400 prize money will be awarded to Coolaney Tidy Towns in light of the fact that they were awarded Sligo Tidiest Town”
