Release of Vehicle Data
Release of motor tax information to a third party is governed by the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Amendment Regulations 1994.
The Motor Tax Office releases data to An Garda Síochána, Traffic Wardens and other Local Authorities about vehicle ownership and tax status where these are the subject of proceedings under legislation, e.g. regarding traffic violations, fines, etc.
The supply of data to other third parties is covered by Regulations and any requests for information must be made under and in accordance with the following Regulations:
- Requests to licensing authorities for vehicle data may be made under I. No.277/1994 - Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations
All requests for disclosure which rely on these regulations require the payment of a fee of €6 and certain conditions apply to the release of information in these circumstances in the interest of data protection, e.g. subject of legal proceedings, reasonable right to apply for information.
