Delivering Regeneration
The Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government (DoHPCLG) has been very involved in the Regeneration Project from the beginning and has provided significant funding for a wide range of regeneration initiatives to date. This funding has been complemented by funding investment and resources of Sligo County Council, and by project partner funding from the Health Service Executive, the Department of Social Protection, Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, Education and Training Board, RAPID, Music Generation, Department of Justice and others. The DoHPCLG has indicated budgetary support for a number of physical projects. Each physical project will be subject to the requirements of capital appraisal under the public spending guidelines.
The social and economic strategies are also based on actions intended to build on the progress to date. Many of the actions described in the social and economic plans are already underway, and are funded by a wide range of agencies.
Where social and economic actions require additional funding under the Social Interventions Budget, the DoHPCLG has recommended the establishment of an independent evaluation panel who can assess funding against the objectives outlined in the social and economic plans on an annual case-by-case basis.
New structures will be formed and existing interagency structures such as the Regeneration Steering Group, the Local Community Development Committee, Housing Strategic Policy Committee, Sligo County Council and the Department of Housing will be used to monitor progress on the implementation of the various elements of the plan. It is recognised that regeneration needs to be delivered in partnership with Community Groups and other agencies
