Temporary Closing of Roads - Gran Fondo
TEMPORARY CLOSING OF ROADS
SECTION 75 OF THE ROADS ACT, 1993
PART 8 ROADS REGULATIONS 1994 (NO. 119 OF 1994)
Notice is hereby given of the intention of Sligo County Council to close to public traffic, roads as listed below at the dates and times specified to facilitate the safe delivery of the Gran Fondo Time Trial and Family Cycle on Saturday, 29th June, 2024 and the Gran Fondo World Series, Sligo, 2024 on Sunday, 30th June, 2024.
1. Saturday 29th June, 2024
Time Trial route – proposed road closure from 7am to 3pm inclusive:
It is proposed to close the L-3700-0 (old N4) from the roundabout at Toberbride along the Old Dublin Road to Castlebaldwin Village.
Alternative route for traffic will be the new N4 dual carriageway in both directions.
2. Sunday – 30th June, 2024
Gran Fondo route – proposed rolling road closures as outlined below – rolling from 6.30am to 6.30pm inclusive:
Starting: Wine Street R292, towards Strandhill, travelling through Strandhill village on the R292, to Ransboro, R292 to Ballysadare to its junction with the N59 at Balladrihid, the N59 through Ballysadare to Beltra, turning right onto the R297 (Coast Road) travelling through Dromore West, Easkey and onto Carrowhubbock South, Enniscrone. Turning left onto the R298 to the junction with the N59, turning right onto the N59, travelling along the N59 to Corbally, then turning left towards Bonniconlon, joining the R294 past Lough Talt, R294 through Tobercurry before joining the R296, through Bunninadden and Ballymote, entering local road L-1502, crossing the new N4 at Cloonlurg, onto the old N4 at Drumfin, to Riverstown before joining the R284 at Coola, through Ballygawley and towards Carraroe. From Carraroe to Cemetery Road via Pearse Road, then turning left onto Cleveragh Drive and finishing at Doorly Park.

3. Sunday 30th June, 2024
Medium Fondo route – proposed rolling road closures as outlined below-rolling from 6.30am to 6.30pm
Starting: Wine Street R292, towards Strandhill, travelling through Strandhill village on the R292, to Ransboro, R292 to Ballysadare to its junction with the N59 at Balladrihid, the N59 through Ballysadare, following R290 to Collooney, entering the L-2101 to Coolaney, entering the L-6804, then L-8601, then L,4603 towards Cloonacool, and then the L-4702 to Mullany’s Cross R294 past Lough Talt, R294 through Tobercurry before joining the R296, through Bunninadden and Ballymote, entering local road L-1502, crossing the new N4 at Cloonlurg, onto the old N4 at Drumfin, to Riverstown before joining the R284 at Coola, through Ballygawley and towards Carraroe. From Carroroe to Cemetery Road via Pearse Road, then turning left onto Cleveragh Drive and finishing at Doorly Park.

4. Sunday 30th June, 2024
Sportive Route – proposed rolling road closures as outlined below - rolling from 6.30am to 6.30pm
Starting: Wine Street R292, towards Strandhill, travelling through Strandhill village on the R292, to Ransboro, R292 to Ballysadare to its junction with the N59 at Balladrihid, the N59 through Ballysadare, following R290 to Collooney, entering the L-2101 to Coolaney, From Coolaney, left onto L2801 towards Derrybeg, crossing the N17 at Carrowntawy, before joining the R296 at Carrowkeel and onto Ballymote, entering local road L-1502, crossing the new N4 at Cloonlurg, onto the old N4 at Drumfin, to Riverstown before joining the R284 at Coola, through Ballygawley and towards Carraroe. From Carraroe to Cemetery Road via Pearse Road, then turning left onto Cleveragh Drive and finishing at Doorly Park.

It is envisaged that the rolling road closures will commence 30 minutes before the start time indicated and finish 30 minutes after the end time indicated.

A diversion ‘orbital’ route away from the event route itself using a combination of advance signage, VMS signage and event day diversionary signage will be operated and maintained by the Event Organiser/Traffic Management Contractor at all times.
In the interests of safety, it is proposed to commence the temporary rolling road closures at 6.30am and ending at 18.30.
Any person aggrieved by the proposed closure may lodge a written objection setting out the grounds therefor with Ms. Emer Concannon, Acting Director of Services, Infrastructural Services Section, Sligo County Council, Riverside, Sligo, and received not later than 1.00 p.m. on Tuesday, 11th June, 2024.
