Local Improvement Scheme 2019
This Scheme enables the carrying out of improvement works by Sligo County Council on private/non-public roads subject to certain conditions being met.
In order to be eligible the subject roads must be:
- in private ownership,
- provide access to parcels of land of which at least two are owned or occupied by different persons engaged in separate agricultural activities (Basic Payment Scheme maps showing the boundaries of each farmers landholding along the proposed LIS road must be submitted),
- open for public use at all times,
- roads which provide access for harvesting purposes (turf or seaweed) for two or more persons, may be eligible,
- non public roads that lead to important community amenities such as graveyards, beaches, piers, mountain walks etc may also be eligible.
A local contribution of 10% - 15% of the total costs is payable by the applicant in all cases.
Roads serving only houses or buildings occupied or used by persons not engaged in agriculture, or roads leading to commercial enterprises are not eligible.
Sligo County Council now invites applications from interested parties who may wish to avail of this Scheme.
If an application was made for a Local Improvement Scheme in 2017 or 2018 there is no need to reapply. Please note that this Scheme normally attracts a large number of applications and a long waiting list for eligible schemes may apply.

Completed Application Forms must be submitted to Sligo County Council, Roads Department, High Market House, Old Market Street,Sligo by 4.00 pm on Thursday, 7th February, 2019.
