The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Dara Mulvey welcomed the announcement by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage of the funding of projects through the ‘Historic Structures Fund 2021’.

Funding announced for four historic buildings in Sligo
‘This is excellent news for our Authority and our county. The protection of our built heritage is one of our most important functions, and this funding will enable us to plan for the preservation and protection of some of our most significant historic structures.’
Funding of €117,000 has been announced for projects in County Sligo:

Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan, TD,
“I am delighted to announce another €3m investment in our built heritage. This year’s Historic Structures Fund will assist 85 owners and custodians of historic and protected structures across the country as they carry out a range of conservation projects to repair and safeguard our built heritage and supporting local employment of skilled conservation workers and tradespeople.’
Chair of Sligo Heritage Forum, Councillor Dónal Gilroy welcomed the grant allocation for Harte’s Shop on John Street, saying that
‘We are delighted to see Harte’s Shop benefitting from this funding particularly as it is one of only five projects awarded nationally under the newly established pilot stream for historic shopfronts.’
The Historic Structures will enables Local Authorities to undertake conservation works to heritage structures, in both private and public ownership.
The primary focus of the Fund is on conservation and enhancement of historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public.
