The Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2020 (BHIS) is for the repair and conservation of structures that are protected under the Planning and Development Acts This Scheme aims to support a significant number of labour-intensive, small-scale conservation projects across the country and to support the employment of skilled and experienced conservation professionals, craftspeople and tradespersons in the repair of the historic built environment. The fund is administered through the local authorities.
The Built Heritage Investment Scheme will be administered from a total national allocation of €2.5m. Grants of between €2,500 and €15,000 will be awarded, with applicants required to provide a minimum of 50% of total costs.
The Historic Structures Fund 2020 (HSF) is for conservation works to heritage structures, in both private and public ownership. The primary focus of the Historic Structures Fund is on conservation and enhancement of historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public. The fund is generally administered through the local authorities. The Historic Structures Fund will be administered from a total national allocation of €1.8m. There are two streams of funding:
Stream 1 €15,000 - €50,000 (max. 80% funding) and,
Stream 2 €50,000 - €200,000 (max. 50% funding)
Applications Invited
Sligo County Council wishes to invite applications under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2020 and the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) 2020, as operated by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Both schemes will be administered by Sligo County Council.
The categories of structures eligible for assistance are as follows:
- Protected Structures i.e. those structures included in the Record of Protected Structures (RPS) of the Local Authority.
- Proposed Protected Structures i.e. those structures that are proposed for inclusion in the RPS of the Local Authority.
- Structures or works within Architectural Conservation Areas (ACAs), or within the amenity of a National Monument where exceptional circumstances apply.
