Funding for Conservation of Heritage Buildings

Sligo County Council wishes to invite applications under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2021 and the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) 2021 as operated by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Both schemes will be administered by Sligo County Council.

Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2021

The Built Heritage Investment Scheme will be administered from a total national allocation of €3m. Grants of between €2,500 and €15,000 will be awarded, with applicants required to provide a minimum of 50% of total costs.

Historic Structures Fund (HSF) 2021

The Historic Structures Fund will be administered from a total national allocation of €3m. There are three streams of funding:

Stream 1 €15,000 - €50,000 (max. 80% funding) and,
Stream 2 €50,000 - €200,000 (50% of eligible costs) In exceptional circumstances a higher percentage may be sought, subject to a maximum of 80%
Stream 3
- Pilot Stream for Vernacular Structures - €5,000 - €10,000 (max. 80% funding)
- Pilot Stream for Historic Shopfronts - €15,000 - €50,000 (max. 80% funding)

The categories of structures eligible for assistance are as follows:

Protected Structures i.e. those structures included in the Record of Protected Structures (RPS) of the Local Authority.
Proposed Protected Structures i.e. those structures that are proposed for inclusion in the RPS of the Local Authority.
Structures or works within Architectural Conservation Areas (ACAs), or within the amenity of a National Monument where exceptional circumstances apply.

All applicants must complete the relevant Application Form and submit it, with supporting documentation in hard copy (ONLY) by 4pm Friday 29^th January 2021.

Applications must be clearly marked Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2021/Historic Structures Fund 2021 and addressed to the Heritage Office, Sligo County Council, City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo, F91 PP44. Late applications will not be accepted.
