2021 TII Funding Allocations

2021 Funding Allocations from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII)

The allocation for 2021 of €40M from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) will allow the following projects to progress

N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Development Project €25,000,000

The allocation will see the scheme to completion of construction. The contract is progressing very well with a forecast road opening in late Q2/early Q3 2021.

N4/N15 Urban Improvement €4,750,000

Following on from the N4 Hughes Bridge Widening Scheme this is the next section currently under construction at the northern end of the Hughes Bridge Widening Scheme and finishing north of the Rosses Point junction.  It includes upgrading the National primary to north of the Rosses Point junction, along with upgrading the Rosses point, Duck Street and Markievicz Road Junctions. The Copper River Bridge has also been upgraded as part of the works. Completion of the scheme is forecast for early Q2 2021.

N16 Lugatober to Gortnagrelly €3,2500,000

The N16 in County Sligo is substandard from Sligo City to the Leitrim Border.  A Preferred Route for the N16 in County Sligo was selected in 2017. This will enable the N16 to be upgraded on a phased basis over a number of years. The first section proposed to be upgraded is a 2.5km length in the vicinity of Lugatober. This scheme will realign several severe bends on the existing road and will tie-in with future realignments. The funding allocation will allow construction to commence in second half of 2021.

N17 Knock to Collooney €1,100,000

In 2019, the project was successfully brought through Phase 1 - Concept and Feasibility, of the TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland) Project Management Guidelines, and approval was received from TII to advance the Options Selection, Design & Environmental Evaluation and the Statutory Process Phases. The Options Selection commenced in 2019 and includes an extensive Public Consultation in Q4 2019 on an established Physical Constraints Study Area. A wide range of improvement options are being considered in the Options Selection Phase, which will include various different routing scenarios for the N17, including any historical preferred routes. This work will be ongoing in 2021, and it is expected that a Preferred Option (or route corridor) should emerge in Quarter 3 of 2021.

Pavement Improvements €3,900,000

The overall sum approved for Pavement Schemes for 2021 is the same as 2020 allocations. Schemes are programmed for the N15, N16 and the N59.

N15 Schemes  -  €1,650,000 (ongoing Cashelgarron to south of Grange scheme)

N16 Schemes  -  €2,000,000

Maintenance €699,785

Maintenance Costs Provisions for our national primary and secondary road network (excluding lighting) in respect of the National Primary road network for 2021 are as for 2020 allocations.

Engineering Support Grant  €1,090,000
