Cranmore and Environs Mentor Programme shortlisted in the Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Awards 2020
The Awards are held annually in conjunction with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
The Sligo East City, Cranmore and Environs Mentor Programme is a three year programme funded by the Higher Education Authority and jointly delivered by the Institute of Technology Sligo and Sligo County Council’s Cranmore Regeneration Project.
The programme aims to increase the diversity and social mix of the student population within the higher education institutions. It provides mentor support for individuals from the community who are students or adult/mature learners.
Ciarán Hayes, Sligo County Council CE has highlighted the uniqueness of this mentor programme amongst similarly funded projects
‘It is the only project that it is working from the ground up with a community development approach and it is also the only project located within the community. This allows for greater access to the mentor and the supports she brings. It also has established clear and strong links between Cranmore and the Institute of Technology Sligo’.
The Cranmore Education Mentor also works closely with Cranmore Community Co-op, the Abbeyquarter Community Centre and with local schools, colleges, training centres and education supports. These collaborations have been invaluable to the success of the programme to date.
The Cranmore Education Mentor is available from Monday to Wednesday and can be contacted during office hours at 085 8751245. Further details about the programme can be got at www.cranmoreconnects.ie and on the Facebook page Cranmoreconnects.
