PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION 2025!
The President of Ireland (Uachtarán na hÉireann) is directly elected by the people for a seven-year term (and may serve a maximum of two terms).
The Minister for Housing, Local Government & Heritage, James Browne, TD, has made the Presidential Order specifying that Polling Day for the Presidential Election 2025 will take place on 24th October 2025 between the hours of 7.00 am and 10.00 pm.
To vote in a Presidential Election, you must be:
- An Irish Citizen,
- Aged 18 or over,
- Ordinarily resident in ireland, and
- Registered to vote

Latest date to Register to Vote or Update your Details - Tuesday, 7th October 2025
Latest date to apply for a Postal or Special Vote More info here - Monday, 29th September 2025
People can check their voter registration details on www.checktheregister.ie . People who are eligible to vote, but who are not registered as electors, still have time to apply for entry on the Register of Electors and, therefore, be eligible to vote on 24th October 2025. For those who wish to do so, you can register online at www.checktheregister.ie or by dowloading a paper application form at ERF1 Register of Electors - Application form (PDF) and returning it to Sligo County Council, County Hall, Riverside, Sligo. Applications for inclusion on the Register of Electors, whether online or by hard copy must be received not later than 7th October 2025.
Postal & Special Voters Lists
Certain categories of people are eligible to apply for a Postal or Special vote. If, due to illness or disability, work/service or study reasons, you are prevented from attending a polling station on polling day, you may be entitled to a Postal Voter.
If you live in a nursing home, hospital, or similar institution and, due to illness or disability, you cannot go to your polling station to vote you may apply for inclusion on the Special Voters List.

Applications for Postal and Special votes must be received by Sligo County Council not later than 29th September 2025.
