N4 Active Travel Schemes
Sligo County Council through the Sligo Regional Design Office are in the early stages of planning for the N4 Active Travel Collooney to Toberbride Scheme and the N4 Active Travel Collooney to Castlebaldwin Scheme.
The objective of these projects, which are funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland, is to provide continuous Active Travel facilities from Collooney to Castlebaldwin utilising an existing Active Travel facility from Toberbride Business Park to Doorly Td. (Constructed as part of the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Project).
The N4 Active Travel Collooney to Toberbride Scheme covers a study area of approximately 1 km, stretching from Collooney town to Toberbride Business Park. The study area and route options drawings will be available for viewing throughout the public consultation period.
The N4 Active Travel Collooney to Castlebaldwin Scheme encompasses a study area of approximately 12 km. Drawings of this study area will also be available for viewing throughout the public consultation period.
These schemes have the potential to link with the proposed Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway (SLNCR) Greenway, and the proposed Sligo Greenway – Collooney to Bellaghy, as well as the ongoing Active Travel interventions in Collooney Village.
DBFL Consulting Engineers have been appointed by Sligo County Council to provide multi-disciplinary engineering and other specialist consultancy services to progress these two projects through Phases 2 to 4 of the Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) Project Management Guidelines. These two projects are currently at Phase 2 entitled Options Selection. This pre-design public consultation forms an important part of advancing the design process towards the development of route options and allows the involvement of the public in identifying key constraints. There will be further public consultation held in the future as the scheme design develops.
Public Consultation for these two projects will take place from Monday 25th September to Monday 23rd October 2023. This consultation is being held online through a public consultation portal which is accessible at the following website https://consult.sligococo.ie. It will contain all the information that will be displayed at the in-person public consultation event. Submissions of comments or queries can be made via the public consultation portal. An online survey will also be provided on the consultation portal.
