Adoption of the Sligo County Council Local Authority Climate Action Plan 2024-2029
Notice is hereby given that Sligo County Council has, pursuant to Section 16 of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021, adopted its Local Authority Climate Action Plan 2024-2029.
The Sligo County Council Climate Action Plan 2024-2029 relates to the County of Sligo. It sets out how the local authority will promote a range of mitigation, adaptation and other climate action measures, to help deliver on the national climate obligations and the Government’s overall National Climate Objective, which seeks to pursue and achieve, by no later than the end of 2050, the transition to a climate resilient, biodiversity rich, environmentally sustainable and climate neutral economy.
The Sligo County Council Climate Action Plan 2024-2029 was subject to both a Strategic Environmental Assessment, in accordance with the European Communities (Environmental Assessment of Certain Plans and Programmes) Regulations 2004 (S.I. 435 of 2004 as amended by S.I. 200 of 2011) for Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and an Appropriate Assessment (AA), pursuant to Article 6 of the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC. as transposed into Irish law under Regulation 42(1) of the European Communities (Birds and Natural Habitats) Regulations 2011 (S.I. No. 477/2011), as amended.
Pursuant to the SEA regulations, notice is given that a Strategic Environmental Assessment Statement for the plan is available for inspection summarising:
- how environmental considerations have been integrated into the plan,
- how the environmental report was prepared pursuant to Article 12,
- submissions and observations made to the competent authority in response to a notice under Article 13,
- how consultations under Article 14, have been considered during the preparation of the plan and modifications to a plan,
- the reasons for choosing the plan and modifications to a plan, in the light of the other reasonable alternatives dealt with, and
- the measures decided upon to monitor, in accordance with Article 17, the significant environmental effects of implementation of the plan and modifications to a plan.
Pursuant to the European Communities (Birds and Natural Habitats) Regulations, Sligo County Council’s determination and reasons for its determination are also available for inspection online, as detailed below.
