Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a roadmap for creating a better world. Also known as Agenda 2030 and the Global Goals, the 17 SDGs address the many causes of poverty, injustice and damage to our planet. The goals are backed up by 169 targets. These targets outline the actions needed to create a sustainable, prosperous and peaceful world.
The goals are universally applicable. This means they apply to every country in the world. We implement them in Ireland, as well as internationally.
The National Implementation Plan for the Sustainable Development Goals 2022-2024 was developed in collaboration with all Government Departments, key stakeholders, and based on input from two public consultation processes. The Plan sets out five strategic objectives and 51 actions, with 119 individual measures to increase Ireland’s ambition and strengthen implementation structures to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Are the SDGs relevant to me?
Yes they are relevant to us all - at work, at home, in our communities and schools. Regardless of whether you are an individual, part of a Community Development Group, Tidy Towns group, or employed in the public or private sector, we can all establish connections between our actions and one or even multiple SDGs. It is beneficial for all of us to acknowledge the positive impact we can have on preserving our local and global communities for the long term.
