Spring Clean

National Spring Clean is Ireland’s most popular, well recognised and successful anti-litter initiative. The campaign encourages every sector of society to actively participate and take responsibility for litter, by conducting clean ups in their own local environment. National Spring Clean traditionally takes place throughout the month of April has resulted in the collection of almost 45,000 tonnes of litter across Ireland!

National Spring Clean is operated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce in partnership with the Department of Environment, Heritage & Local Government and Local Authorities and is sponsored by the Wrigley Company Ltd.

To Get Involved

Each Spring, Tidy Towns committees, schools, residents’ associations, societies, or any group of people come together in order to tackle litter will receive assistance from an Taisce and Sligo County Council.  Your support and leadership is needed to get actively involved in this clean-up campaign.  To organise an event in your area, simply register with An Taisce on www.nationalspringclean.org to receive your clean-up kit.

Sligo County Council have additional clear bags and gloves available to groups that have registered with An Taisce.  Please note that only clear bags will be collected and any other bags, including coloured An Taisce bags, will not be picked up.  Household rubbish is not permitted to be included in this collection.

Sligo County Council have a stock of hand-held litter pickers available to groups at a reduced cost of €5 each (2024 prices).
