Background Sligo County Council Disability Consultative Committee
The Sligo County Council Disability Consultative Committee was established by Sligo County Council as a subcommittee of its Housing and Corporate Strategic Policy Committee. Its role is to advise the Council on policies and actions to remove barriers faced by disabled people in accessing infrastructure and services of the Council, and to promote inclusion, equality and coordination between service providers.
The Committee membership is comprised of elected members and officials of the Council, representatives from the Health Service Executive, Disability Federation of Ireland, the Public Participation Network (PPN) and groups and organisations representative of the disability sectors.
Draft Sligo County Council Disability Inclusion and Access Strategy 2024-2027
The Council, under the auspices of the Disability Consultative Committee is undertaking a review of the Sligo County Council Disability Inclusion and Access Strategy 2019-2022, which sets out a programme of actions to improve accessibility. To assist in this review process, the Disability Consultative Committee has prepared a Draft Disability Inclusion and Access Strategy 2024-2027 for the purpose of public consultation. The Draft Strategy contains actions under the themes set out in the National Disability Inclusion Strategy 2017-2022 namely: Equality and Choice, Joined up Policies and Public Services, Employment, Person Centred Disability Services, Living in the Community, Transport and Accessible Places. It also includes a number of additional actions proposed by the Disability Consultative Committee.
The Disability Consultative Committee now wishes to invite submissions from interested parties in relation to the Draft Strategy, a copy of which can be downloaded below.
Submissions should be emailed to dcc@sligococo.ie not later than 4.00 pm, Friday, 8 December, 2023.
All submissions will be reviewed and taken into consideration by the Disability Consultative Committee, before making recommendations in the making of the Strategy.
