Sligo City and Environs Local Area Plan
Pre-Draft Public Consultation on the
Preparation of the Sligo City and Environs Local Area Plan 2018–2024
Consultation period: 12 December 2017 to 30 January 2018
In accordance with Section 19 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) Sligo County Council intends to prepare a new Sligo City and Environs Local Area Plan (LAP) for the period 2018–2024.
The County Council has prepared a Consultation Paper which offers relevant information to those willing to engage in pre-draft consultation on the new Local Area Plan.
Copies of the Consultation Paper may also be inspected or purchased at the following locations:
- Planning Office, City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo
- Sligo Central Library, Stephen Street, Sligo
The preparation of the new LAP will take approximately one year to complete and will involve a number of stages of public consultation. As part of the first stage, the County Council is now engaging in pre-draft consultation with the general public and a wide range of organisations and interest groups. Public consultation will inform the policies and objectives of the new plan, as well as the overall strategy for the proper planning and sustainable development of the Sligo City and Environs area.
Suggestions or observations are invited from anyone with an interest in the future development of Sligo City and Environs.
Children, or groups representing their interests, are entitled to make submissions or observations.
Submissions and observations regarding the preparation of a new LAP should be made in writing (hard copy or e-mail), headed “Sligo City and Environs Local Area Plan 2018-2024” and sent to:

Closing date for submissions is Tuesday, 30 January 2018, at 4.00 p.m.
The submissions received by the Planning Authority may be made available to the public. Pease do not include personal, confidential or other sensitive information in submissions.
Strategic Environment Assessment (SEA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA)
In accordance with the provisions of the Planning and Development (Strategic Environmental Assessment) Regulations 2004 (as amended), the Planning Authority must carry out a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) as part of the preparation of the new Local Area Plan. For this purpose, the Planning Authority will prepare an Environmental Report on the likely significant effects on the environment of implementing the new Plan.
Pursuant to the requirements of Article 6 of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC), a Stage One Appropriate Assessment Screening will be carried out as part of the process. A Stage Two Appropriate Assessment (AA) may be carried out, if required.
