Traffic Report W/C 12th August, 2019

Sligo Area

  • A scaffolding licence has been granted for Adelaide Street at Salon 2.  The scaffolding will be on the footpath with pedestrians catered for and no traffic delays are expected.
  • A scaffolding licence has been granted for at 79/80 John Street.  The scaffolding will be on the footpath with pedestrians catered for and no traffic delays are expected.

O’Connell Street Enhancement Scheme Project:

  • Works will continue on the southern end of O’Connell Street along the footpath and layby from Hale towards Carraig Donn.  These works will involve the continuation of excavations to this section and existing layby, excavation and removal of existing footpaths, installation of new underground ducting, services, drainage, chambers, kerbing and paving. Works to commence on the footpath on the corner of Harmony Hill and John Street late next week. Full traffic management will remain in operation. Pedestrian facilities will be provided.

Road Works - Cranmore Drive – Devins Drive Junction

  • Traffic Light Restrictions will continue in relation to the Construction works on the upgrade of the Junction at Cranmore Road and Devins Drive, Sligo.  The works are expected to be completed by October 2019 and will involve the realignment of the junction and the introduction of traffic calming measures. Sligo County Council and the Cranmore Regeneration Project Team regret any inconvenience caused. 

Western Distributor Road Phase 2:

  • Construction works will continue on the Western Distributor Road Phase 2.  
  • A temporary closure of the Oakfield Road comes into effect on Monday 12th August.  This road closure will remain in place for a 3 week period.  The Oakfield Road will be closed from its junction with the L-7509 (Cloverhill Road) to its junction with Oakfield Crescent.  Alternative routes will be via the N4 Dual Carriageway and Church Hill / Maugheraboy Road.  Local access will be maintained

Ballydoogan Road:

  • Irish Water are decommissioning 175m an existing 5” Cast Iron problematic water main  associated fittings on the Ballydoogan Road, County Sligo. Works will include transfer of service pipes and Fire Hydrants from the cast iron main to a polyethylene watermain. The work will include the removal of all lead service pipes, in public areas. These essential works are required to improve water quality and water pressure for19 existing domestic connections. The works will be carried out on behalf of Irish Water by Farrans Construction Ltd and are expected to be completed by end August, 2019. Local traffic management will be in place, Traffic Management will be in place which will include Temporary Traffic Signals, minor traffic delays are to be expected.

Sligo Summer Festival – Stephen Street Carpark Closure:

  • Stephen Street Carpark will remain closed through to 18.00 on Monday, 12th August to facilitate the holding of the Sligo Summer Festival.

  

ENNISCRONE AREA

  • Pedestrian Crossing works will continue on the N59 in Dromore West. Works to include drainage, footpath construction and pavement repairs. Traffic Management will be in operation.  Motorists to exercise caution.
  •  Road strengthening will be carried out on Road L2402-49 Owenbeg, on Monday12th and Tuesday 13th August.  The road will be closed and diversions in place.
  • Surface re-instatement will be carried out in Easkey village on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th August.  Traffic management will be in place.
  • Pothole repair and Surface Drainage works will continue in the Enniscrone area. Traffic control will be in operation but no delays are expected.
  • Road works will be carried out on road 86A Finod.  Traffic control will be in operation but no delays are expected.

  

Ballymote Area

  • Pothole repair works will continue in the Ballymote area. Traffic control will be in operation but no delays are expected.

N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Project:

The construction of the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Project is progressing and is expected to be ongoing until Q2, 2021. Traffic management is in place for the following works: 

  • N4/N17 Toberbride Roundabout heading south on the existing N4 towards Dublin - Site Works Ongoing for the first 3Km to the junction with the L1302. Hard Shoulders are closed to traffic. Please note a 60kph speed limit is in operation in this work zone for the duration of these works. Minor delays are expected as a result.
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L14019 at Cloonamahan.
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L55015 at Doorly.
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L55016 at Knockagroagh.
  • General Site Works ongoing and bridge construction works to commence on the L5502 at Drumfin. Localised road layout changes will be in place. Please follow the traffic management plan in operation.
  • Ongoing General Site works on the L1502 32 at Cloonlurg. 
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L5402 at Carrownagark.
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L5402 at Carrownagark. Blasting works commenced on the 24th June 2019 and are expected to be ongoing for a period of eight months. Currently, it is proposed to carry out two blasts weekly on Mondays and Fridays.   • General site works and bridge construction works ongoing on the L54033 at Kingsbrook. Localised road layout changes will be in place. Please follow the traffic management plan in operation.
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L5403 at Ardloy.
  • A Stop GO will be in operation on the existing N4 at Ardloy Td. which is approximately 3Km northwest (Sligo Town side) of Castlebaldwin Village from the 25th July, 2019 and is expected to be in place for up to two months. Please note a 60kph speed limit is in operation in this work zone. Delays are expected as a result, particularly at peak times. Sligo County Council and Roadbridge Ltd. regret any inconvenience caused.
  • General Site Works ongoing and bridge construction works to commence on the L5401 at Tawnagh. Localised road layout changes will be in place. Please follow the traffic management plan in operation.
  • Permanent Road Closure of the L54041-0 in the Townland of Sheerevagh from the 4th June. An alternative route is available via the L-5404-0, L-1403-0, L-1404-0 and the existing N4. This diversion route will be signposted for a four week period following the Road Closure. Improvement works will also be carried out to the existing junction of the L54041-0 with the existing N4. Minor delays are expected as a result.
  • Ongoing General Site Works on the L1404 at Drumderry/Castlebaldwin.
  • Constructing a site access off the existing N4 on the southeast side of Castlebaldwin Village.

TUBBERCURRY AREA

  • Pothole repair works will continue in the Tubbercurry area. Traffic control will be in operation but no delays are expected.
  • Permanent Road Reinstatement works associated with recent pipelaying operations for Irish Water are programmed to commence during the week along the Ballina Road (R294) between the outskirts of Tobercurry Town and Annagh Bridge on the River Moy. A traffic management plan will be in place but motorists can expect minor delays with temporary traffic lights in operation. These works are expected to be ongoing until early September. 

Coolrawer Bridge, Cully, Curry:

  • Notice is hereby given that Sligo County Council has decided as a matter of urgency, to close to public traffic the L4901-0 at Coolrawer Bridge, Cully, Curry, Co. Sligo.  This bridge will be closed until further notice.  This emergency road closure is necessary due to structural damage to the bridge. The alternative route for HGV traffic is to proceed from Bellahy to Curry along the N17 and at Curry to travel via the L4504-0 and L4503-0 to Banada bridge and vice versa.  Local traffic to proceed from Cully cross via the L4902-0 to Cully village and via the L8906-0 and L4901-0 to Banada bridge and vice versa.  For further information please contact Mr. Val Baynes, Senior Executive Engineer 071 9111962.

Rinbaun Watermain Replacement Contract:

  • Irish Water are replacing an existing 1600m of problematic water mains with high density polyethylene (plastic) pipes, associated fitting and service pipes on the N17 between Rinbaun and Carrowreilly, County Sligo. Works are to commence on 8th July. The works location is on the N17, approximately 5km Southwest of Ballynacarrow and 3km Northeast of Achonry. The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply. These works are being carried out on behalf of Irish Water by Farrans Construction Ltd and are expected to be completed by mid-August 2019. Traffic Management will be in place which will include Temporary Traffic Signals, traffic delays are to be expected.

 

Strandhill Area

  • Drainage works will commence on the L-3502-0 at Scarden More and Drinaghan.  Traffic control will be in operation but no delays are expected. Motorists are advised to exercise conditions.

Backyard and lead services Replacement – Stella Maris Ballysadare

  • Irish Water are decommissioning 840m an existing 3” Cast Iron problematic water mains and replacing with 510m of high density polyethylene (plastic) pipes, associated fitting and service pipes at Stella Maris, Ballysadare, County Sligo. The section of works will take place on the Stella Maris estate Roads, located approximately off the 500m from the village off the N59. The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and replacing lead service at back of existing dwelling and relocating stop valves to public areas. These works are essential to improve current water quality and water pressure of 28 existing domestic connections. The works will be carried out on behalf of Irish Water by Farrans Construction Ltd and are expected to be completed by end August, 2019. Local traffic management will be in place, no delays are expected.

Road and Footpath works at St Joseph’s Primary School, Collooney:

  • The construction of traffic safety measures at St Joseph’s Primary School, designed to assist in particular with the management of school related traffic will continue. The works include additional parking, new and reconstructed footpaths, a mini-roundabout, a raised speed table and new set-down/pick up area at the school. Traffic using the L-7609-0 to access St Mary’s Green, Church View, Kiernan Avenue, Rowan Tree Gardens, Highwood Park, Riverwalk, Abhainn Mór, Bru Na hAbhainn, Radharc Na gCaisleán and Owenmore Gaels GAA Club may expect delays.
