Cathaoirleach welcomes commencement of works at Grange Treatment Plant - Cathaoirleach Councillor Seamus Kilgannon and Mayor Councillor Hubert Keaney at the site of the New Grange Treatment Plant with Site Manager Declan Lawless

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Seamus Kilgannon has welcomed the commencement of construction works for the new Grange Waste Water Treatment Plant.

‘This facility has been long awaited by the local community and they will be relieved to see it is finally underway.  This project is one part of a €16 million investment in our county’s wastewater infrastructure.  In partnership with Irish Water, we will also see the upgrading of treatment plants in Strandhill, Tubbercurry and Ballinafad.

The Cathaoirleach continued:

‘The upgrade of the four plants has been discussed many times in the Council Chamber  over a long number of years.  In addition to bringing improved water quality, it will also enhance our environment and development potential.  It will also impact on the water quality of nearby coastal areas.’

The Cathaoirleach also commended Sligo County Council’s Director of Services Tom Kilfeather and his team for coordinating the projects to date and working with Irish Water to secure the delivery of the four Schemes.
